DISCLAIMER: I do not own TMNT

Leonardo Hamato slammed the door of the taxi and leaned back against it, watching as the hustle and bustle of New York was distorted by the opaque glass of the building that towered over him. He examined his own reflection, his pitch black hair was cut short in the back but his bangs hung slightly in his face framing his gold tinted eyes. The 24 year old was dressed in a dark blue button down shirt that was tucked into his black slacks. After several moments he finally entered the building. Today was technically supposed to be his day off, yet he had been called in to speak with the head of the agency.

Several people greeted him as he made his way to the elevator and he politely responded, though never losing the professional aura that surrounded him. Reaching the elevator doors he patiently waited for it to reach the lobby.

"Leo!" He heard his name called and turned to the person who had called out to him, a pretty red head named April O'Neil. She had been a part of the agency just as long as he had and, like himself, had quickly moved up the ranks in her department. Her hair was pulled into a messy bun and she wore very minimum makeup, her yellow sundress was mostly covered by a white lab coat.

"Morning April" he smiled at her, out of everyone he had worked with over the years she was the only one he would let see past his professional persona.

The two stepped into the elevator as other employees began to enter and exit as well. Leo pushed two of the floor numbers, one floor containing his friend's lab and the other the office of the head of the agency.

"How did the last assignment go?" April asked making conversation, she of course knew that it had been a total success, no assignment that was given to Leonardo Hamato was ever anything but perfect.

"It went well. I wouldn't be here if it hadn't" Leo told her with a small smile.

"Did you go solo again?" The red head asked as she glanced over some notes she had with her.

"You know I don't do team assignments April" he reminded her, "What do you have there? If it's okay for me to ask" he changed the subject, he wasn't in the mood to have the 'team assignment' discussion with her again.

A frown crossed Aprils face at the question, "no it's fine if you know. Last night our system was hacked and I've been trying to pin point the location of the device used to hack us. Whoever did this was very careful about not leaving anyway to trace them. From the looks of it they went through a good amount of data we have. Nothing top secret or anything like that" she quickly assured Leo when she saw him tense up, "just some minor stuff. Like blueprints for some old tech we had made."

"Well if anyone can find this guy, I'm sure it's you April" he encouraged her as the elevator door opened and she smiled.

"This is a challenge I won't lose" she told him before giving him a quick hug than hurrying off to her lab.

Now in the elevator with only a few other employees, most of whom he never bothered to know, he let his mind wonder. Something he didn't do often. He had told April that his last assignment had gone well and it was the truth, this particular assignment had gone very smoothly. However he couldn't help but think of all the times April had tried to get him to join a team. If he had been on one perhaps some things could have gone much smoother than they had.

The ding of the elevator drew Leo out of his thoughts and he made his way to the large office that belonged to Yoshi Hamato, the head of the agency and Leo's adopted father.

"Father?" He knocked softly on the light oak door before entering.

His fathers office was large yet not much was in the room. A light oak desk was near the window and to the left of that was a large matching bookshelf, all the books perfectly organized. In the far corner there was a Japanese styled table his father used to prepare and enjoy tea when he needed to relax and on the walls there were various Japanese weapons on display.

Yoshi was sitting at his desk, reading through a pile of reports, "you wished to speak with me?"

"Ah, Leonardo" his father greeted with a warm smile, "yes. Please have a seat" he placed the documents off to the side and watched his son sit down, "I have read your latest assignment report and I must say it is impressive"

"Thank you father" Leo accepted the praise. His father did not hand praises out often, despite him always encouraging his son.

"I believe you are nearly ready to be promoted up to the next level" his father continued and Leo smiled a real genuine smile that was usually reserved for family.

He was only one level away from becoming the highest ranking agent, the youngest to ever achieve such ranking, "Thank you Father. I won't let you down-"

"Not so fast Leonardo. I said you are nearly ready" his father emphasized the word nearly and Leo's smile dropped.

"I'm sorry father, but I'm not sure I understand" Leo said, confusion and slight disappointment in his voice.

"You are simply missing a certain qualification is all," Yoshi informed his son with a slight amused smirk on his face.

Seeing his father smirk made Leo extremely nervous, whatever this qualification was he had a feeling he would not be enjoying it in the least, "And what is this qualification?" he asked hesitantly.

He knew his son would reject the idea he was about to purpose without a second thought if this was something that would have no effect on his career, however now that he knew it would there was no way Leonardo could refuse the proposal, "You are missing team hours. Every agent must complete at least 6 months' worth of team assignments before moving on to the level you wish to achieve"

"I am not joining a team!" Leo exclaimed as he rose from his seat. He couldn't believe his father. Leo was a solo agent, everyone knew this and up until know it had never been a problem.

"Leonardo!" Yoshi scolded his son, and though he didn't raise his voice Leo flinched away, "I understand that you prefer to work on your own but there are some things that can simply not be completed by ones self. You must learn to trust in others as much as you trust in yourself."

Leo stared at the ground thinking over his fathers words. He wanted nothing more than to become the youngest agent to reach the highest level, but working with a team? Leo wasn't so sure he could do that. Trusting himself was so easy, he never second guessed himself on an assignment, but others? He wouldn't know exactly what they were thinking or feeling at all times like he did himself.

"How many?" he asked in a quiet voice.

"Including you, there will be three others. The agency is still in the recruiting process." Yoshi answered, pulling the files he had been looking over back towards him.

Leo nodded at this information, "And this is completely necessary?"

"If you wish to continue making your way up the ranks than yes it is" Yoshi told him, he knew his son wouldn't be happy, but he also knew his son would do whatever it takes to make his dreams come true.

"Fine" Leo agreed reluctantly, finally looking up from the floor and meeting his father's steady gaze, "When will this team be ready?"

"We are pushing for the end of the week" again Leo nodded at the information his father was giving him.

"Is this all that you wished to discuss with me father?" He asked politely, he was upset but if he had learned anything while growing up it was to never show any form of disrespect to Yoshi Hamato.

"It is. I wish you a good rest of your day my son" Yoshi smiled at him before turning his full attention back to the papers in front of him.

With that Leo exited the large office and headed towards the elevator. He wasn't headed home. No. He was headed to the dojo where he could let his frustration out in the form of meditation and training.
