Disclaimer: I do not own LOTR…I wish I did….but I don't.
Author's Note: This is a spur of the moment thing…even as I'm writing this A.N. I have no idea what will be following. Only that it will be LOTR. LOL. I am so strange.
Reflections
In this story I see more than I thought I would ever see in life. In the struggle that is represented by these characters; by these people of this world we can look into the very essence of the human soul. We see how even the best can be corrupted and how even the most unlikely can rise and be great.
Armies rise and armies fall. Evil conquers and is overthrown. And yet in the middle of all this…there are four hobbits…four individuals who no one would have ever thought would have made a difference in anything. But when it came down to it…Tolkien created heroes out of them.
Frodo, through the torture of the Ring, was forever changed; much in the way veterans of war in our world were forever changed by the horrendous things seen in battle.
Meriadoc, a practical joker back home, so sure of his place he was. And to be wrenched into something that he had no control over was something that was completely foreign to him. But he found his courage…he realized that things were bigger than him.
Peregrin, the youngest of the gang, had a very naïve look on life. He didn't realize how impactful the wars of the Big People would or could be to him. And despite his fear…and despite everyone thinking him to be a fool, he conquered his demons.
And Samwise the Brave…
Everything would have been lost if it were not for Samwise. He had the strength and the courage to go on when he thought he was utterly alone. To look after his Master even as that hobbit whom he loved fell into darkness. Unable to help him…unable to carry the burden for him…and never once interested in taking the Ring for himself, Samwise is the true hero.
So as I rant on and on, I'm sure you're all wondering what my point is. Well, since the last of the movies is out, and the story is thought to have ended…I must say that I think it has just begun.
The true journey will continue in all of our hearts as we take these characters and their tales to our heart and learn from their pain and suffering. We look at them and see better versions of ourselves…or rather what we might wish we could be…and we dream and hope.
This is the way of a fantasy. It shows us what we wish for so much, but somehow don't think we can achieve but by some fantastical act…and gives us hope.
On that thought I leave you.
