It was a hot summer day on the east coast of the United States Of America.
Pearl harbor, was washing the food plates in the kitchen room in their big summer house just outside of Beach City. The view outside was nothing but ocean and the sky.
Her 19 year old daughter, Opal, was laying on the sofa while chating with her friends on the phone. her one leg on the top of the sofa, careless and lazy like her second Mother, Amethyst.
Pearl had spent the whole morning cleaning the living room and the hall. She taken out the trash and polished the windows. Their house would be alot less messy if Opal, Steven and Amethyst would clean up after them.
"Mother?" Opal said.
"Yes?" Pearl said, hiding her irritation in her voice over the fact she was the only one taking responsibility.
"Can I go hang out with Sardonyx in the city?"
"Have you cleaned your room." Pearl said, waiting for Opals typical answer.
"Of course I have!"
In a mere moment, Pearl stop what she was doing and turned with wet hands, covered in soap.
"And you haven't." Pearl said.
"What are you talking about?" Opal asked confused. By now, both their eyes were locked onto each other.
"You see, you may be the best to archery in school." Said Pearl as she washed her soap covered hands "But when it comes to motherhood, you are no match for me. For I can see when you're lying in your eyes."
Opal sat up, pissed and irritated her mother would accuse her of such lies. Little did Opal know, she should have heard a thunder storm in the distance - for her fate in this daughter-to-mother arguing was sealed by that moment.
"How can you do this to me?!"
"The same way you can lie to me." Pearl said with a smile, arms on hips.
"Wanna hear a good tip? Don't get all defensive if you know what say about you are lies."
Opal realised what she had done. She put her foot down angry.
"Darn!" Said Opal loudly.
"All of this could have been avoided had you just done what I said 3 hours ago. Then, you could have hanged out with Sardonyx." Pearl put her hand over Opal' shoulder. Opal finally had the courage to look her in the eyes again. But not to see an angry mother, but one with a smile.
Opal smiled again. Understanding what her facial expression ment.
Pearl clapped Opal on the shoulder.
"Alright. Lets see your room." Pearl said as she walked with Opal back to her room. Her arms now around Opals back and shoulder.
"Will you promise not to explode." Opal asked sarcastically.
"It's only your mother who can make me do that."
Pearl and Opal laughed. As they entered her room, Pearl was a little surprised that unlike last time she saw Opal's unclean room, this wasn't so bad. With no distraction, they could finish it all together in twenty minutes or less.
"Well. Should we get started?" Said Pearl with a confident smile.
Opal took the dirty clothing lying on the ground and on her bed into her landery basket. Pearl made sure that all the trash , like half eaten candy bar, chips ect was gone.
After cleaning the room, Opal and Pearl took a moment to relax and look at the work they did together.
Pearl and Opal's eyes meet as they looked at each other.
"You did good."
"Thanks, mom."
"Well what are you waiting for."
Opal looked confusing back at Opal.
"Waiting for what?"
"Weren't you suppose to meet with Sardonyx?"
"Are you serious?!" Said Opal shocked.
"If you promise to take more responsibility and clean your room next time. It's alright."
Opal couldn't believe it, but that didn't stop her from hugging Pearl.
"Thank you so much! You won't regret it."
"I know. Now go out and enjoy your youth - it won't last forever you know.
Pearl watched Opal running down the double turn stairs and hopped onto her bike and drove off.
