Conclusion in WHERE RAINBOW ENDS

POPULAR

Another day had gone by. Still she hadn't asked the Admiral for leave. Loren knew that she had to appear at her sisters wedding. Still she hated the very idea of another Singer Wedding.

Now she was sitting at home, in her favourite pyjamas, blue flannel, wrapped in an afghan, drinking hot chocolate and watching an old movie. Ok. She wasn't really watching the movie, more like distracting herself from thinking.

She was cursed.

Cursed to be unhappy. Forever.

She remembered when her life went wrong. The fateful day the pregnancy test had turned pink. Pregnant. Her parents had been disappointed. More than disappointed with her being pregnant. She hadn't even started college. Her parents had already decided that she would attend Wellesley. And then that. An unplanned pregnancy.

Damn. She had vowed to herself never ever to think about the past again.

She had other problems now.

Reliving the past wouldn't give her a date for the wedding.

Loren needed a date for the wedding. If not – her mother would try and set her up with every avaliable bachelor at the wedding. Her mother thought that getting married and having children was the only goal in life for a woman. Her mother was old-fashioned. Yes, there had been a time when her mother had decided what was best for her. But that was in the past now. At least it should be.

Maybe she could lie and tell everyone that her boyfriend was called away on business at the last minute. Sure. A good idea.

No. Not good.

She knew that they would pity her. Poor Loren wasn't able to keep her boyfriend around.

Or she could ask someone she knew to accompany her to the wedding. Sure. Who would? No one. She couldn't ask Tiner, Gunny, Bud Roberts or even Harm.

No one would agree to be her date at her sister's wedding. She wasn't popular.

If she was someone different.

If she was Sarah Mackenzie.
