Usual disclaimer that I own absolutely no rights to the intellectual properties of Type-Moon, including Tsukihime.

Tonight she was approached with the air of a ritual coming to its final performance. A creeping touch to the shoulder, a time recited in a carefully measured voice - "9 o'clock." Then he fled with heavy steps, before she'd even had the presence to turn around and study his face. A brief flicker of rebellion made her want to not show up at all, because it was the first in a long while that he had done much beyond drag her into a private place and do as he wished. That flicker is blown out in a puff of logic – why would a doll be rebellious?

Dutifully, she knocked and entered the room at 9 o'clock sharp.

The warning was not the only unusual thing. It was a secret in plain sight that she wore a kimono for ease of access, so that she didn't have to feel the bite of cold air on her skin - ultimately, just one more thing to put up a barrier between herself and a conscious mind. Usually the kimono was permitted to stay on.

The swish of an obi being removed.

It is in reaction to that sound that her mind submerges, her limbs losing resistance, her eyes losing their lucidity in favor of a clouded stare. That's just a doll that he's touching, so it doesn't matter - and isn't it funny how such an important man as Makihisa-sama has to resort to touching some doll?

It's hysterical.

It's so hysterical she's aware of her shoulders shaking with what must be suppressed mirth, as cloth slides down her arms. It's so hysterical she can feel stinging tears springing unbidden to her eyes. It's so hysterical, that strangled sound coming from her throat must be laughter.

What a riot.

Later, she's walking back to her room (her own room, she sometimes still marvels) through dark halls with the ease born of routine. When she reaches the door, however, she has to wrap her arms around her ribs and collapse against it, struck once again by the humor of everything.

It's the grand ending to the whole joke, that while this was happening, Makihisa Tohno finished his last note and took his own life.
