SUMMARY: Sometimes the only way you could see how much someone matters, is to see them die in front of you.

The air was thick with the metallic smell of blood and grease. The machines that sustained Gyumao's body hummed, sinister lights glowing. Kougaiji fixed narrowed lilac eyes onto the Sanzo-ikkou fighting on the floor beneath the platform he was standing on.

Dokugakuji, Yaone, and Lirin had forced him to retreat but he still stood firm, waiting for the opportune moment to strike. The youkai prince began the chant to summon Engokuki and aimed it towards Goku.

Sanzo saw the summoned evil roaring towards them the moment the other members of the Kougaiji-tachi leaped aside. The giant fire-demon was going directly after the saru.

"Goku! Move!" the blonde shouted.

Kougaiji noted with grim satisfaction that the itan was having difficulty moving due to the injury that Lirin had managed to inflict to his knee. Engokuki would burn him up easily.

The smile on Kougaiji's face immediately disappeared when he saw Sanzo pushing Goku out of the way. The blonde turned to face Engokuki and began to chant. It was obvious from the look on his face that he knew he would never finish the summoning for the sutra in time.

Desperate, the youkai prince made Engokuki change courses, narrowly missing Sanzo but not fast enough to avoid hitting the metal beam above the monk. It collapsed, pinning Sanzo, sharp metal spokes spearing through the blonde's body.

Kougaiji leapt down from the platform as Goku shouted. "SANZO!"

Ignoring everyone, Kougaiji slowly knelt down in front of the dying monk. Sanzo coughed, spraying blood on Kougaiji's face. The youkai didn't mind; they were like a parody of the tears he wanted to shed but couldn't.

He bent his head and placed a kiss on Sanzo's lips which the blonde weakly returned. "I hate you," Kougaiji whispered.

"I hate you too," Sanzo replied.

And then, nothing. Kougaiji kissed Sanzo again. "Goodbye."

I just noticed that I'm the only Sanzo x Kougaiji writer here in FF . net...Any fellow fans out there? (looks around) Anyways, hope you liked this one. Flames will be used to make Engokuki bigger.
