Even after all these years Jacob Black still loved cars.
Every Sunday he would dedicate the entire day to worshipping the incredible automobiles (if you could call them that) that resided in the reclusive Cullen garage.
He would take his time on each one, always being the good boy that he was and minding his manners. Until, one by one they began sharing the secrets, which they kept concealed underneath their hoods.
Every so often, Edward or Rosalie would join him in his own personal church.
Jacob would convert them to his own religion, bless them with the holy water, and perform the holy sacraments on them. Eventually though, they would always return to praying to their usual Gods. (Bella and Emmett) No one, for the life of them (though not many had much life in them anyway) could understand why Jacob Black loved cars so much.
One rainy, Sunday afternoon Jacob was interrupted by a knock on the garage door. There, standing in the doorway, with a shy smile on her flawless face, was Mrs. Bella Cullen. He couldn't remember the last time he had seen Bella in a garage (In actual fact it was over 100 years ago on a little rez, by the name of La push…)
" Hey Bella, what's wrong? Did you get lost?" Jacob said, with a grin.
Bella laughed her beautiful, wind- chime laugh and walked (glided) over to take a seat on the hood of one of Edwards's cars. (A nice one too)
" Actually, no, Mr. Smarty-pants." She said, as she pulled two cans of coke out of a brown paper bag.
Jacob raised an eyebrow at her, but said nothing as he walked over and took one of the cokes off the hood of the car.
For the first time in along time they were alone together. Well as alone as they could be in a house full of people with supernatural hearing and way too much time on their hands. It felt strange to Jacob, strange but familiar. They sat in silence for a moment each listening to the soft pita patter of the rain falling softly on the tin roof.
"Did you know it's our anniversary?" Bella said, breaking the silence.
"I thought I married Nessie." Jacob joked, taking a sip of his coke.
Bella laughed her wind chime laugh again and punched Jacob lightly in the arm.
" You did, but you met me first. 101 years ago today, do you remember?"
Jacob closed his eyes and his mind was flooded with an endless stream of memories.
Shy smiles and bonfires, small hands encased in his, rainy afternoons and warm cokes. Endless chatter and long silences, careful hugs and a broken girl. 50-cent candy and his open heart, brown eyes and bumps and bruises. Promises of " I'll keep fighting…" and "Bells, honey…" Images of rough kisses and dark haired children and the word/s "jakeandbells"
"Yeah, I remember" he said, in a short voice.
Bella reached over and took his large warm hand in her cold small one.
"You know" she whispered "Even after all this time, I still love you. "
Jacob nodded, and gave her hand a gentle squeeze. Then they once again returned to listening to the pita patter of the gentle rain, reminiscing privately about what ifs, and what could have beens. They both knew there was no going back. They were both bound, too tight, to a force that was even stronger then love. They could however revisit memories of shy smiles, careful hugs, and open hearts. For as long as they remembered, Jakeandbells would be able to live on for all eternity, kept safely inside the hearts of Jacob and Bella.
