RWBY does not belong to me, but to Rooster Teeth. This work of fiction is non-profitable.

Just a little reminder; I have a new poll up regarding RWBY, so please check it out.

Red Velvet Cake

Comfortable. Warm.

The scent of flowers and humorously enough, carrots with every intake of air.

The gentle embrace of smooth, slender arms from behind, lulling you to sleep.

These were the things Ruby Rose woke up as she stirred, silver eyes blinking and adjusting to the daylight still. It was very early in the morning from the looks of it.

The sleeping form behind her shuffled, pressing her own form against the redhead's and softly breathed out, tickling the smaller girl's neck.

"V-Velvet, that t-tickles…" Ruby whispered. Her team had yet to wake up, and it was important that the Faunus senior made her way back to her own dorm before they awoke; none knew that the leader of team RWBY and the second-year student of team CFVY was an item, nor did either of them wish for anyone to know…yet.

In stark contrast to keep their relationship a secret, they had been bold enough to sleep in the same bed every now and then – thanks to the white sheet, Ruby had shielded her bed away from prying eyes and Velvet remaining quiet – because traditionally, lovers tend to be bold.

"Sorry," the Faunus whispered back. She brushed away dark-red locks and kissed the nape of her lover's neck. "…I should get going."

"Of course."

Carefully brushing the sheet aside, the lithe bunny-faunus slid of the edge of the bed and soundlessly landed on the floor. Grabbing her belongings – which had been stored at the end of the bed – the brunette hurriedly got dressed, making sure the rest of team RWBY didn't wake up.

They made it to the door, unlocking it without a sound and slinking out to the hallway. Thankfully the teachers weren't around for the time being.

"So…" The elder girl tucked a few loose locks behind her human ear, milky-white cheeks imitating the redness of her lover's rose-motifs. "I'll see you at breakfast then."

The first-year nodded, her smile shy yet bright as it tended to be when around the Faunus girl. "Yeah…"

Their gazes met, then averted, then met again as the girls stepped closer into a gentle hug. Hearts beat as one, frantic and eager, and as the two stepped back they just as soon leant back in to kiss – a symbol of their affection for each other – that perhaps lasted a bit longer than was needed.

Then again, lovers are also traditionally careless at times.

Velvet was the one to withdraw first, cheeks still flushed and rabbit-ears twitching. "I should get going. I wouldn't want to explain why I'm out of bed this early."

"Tell them you were going for a jog or something," Ruby replied with a playful smile. "I'm the one who's not dressed properly for that excuse…"

"I don't know." The brunette smiled just as playfully back and petted her lover's head. "I think you're properly dressed as you are."

"My pyjamas are proper dress-wear for you?"

"I-It's cute…"

"What a pervert you are, Velvet…"

"N-No! T-That's not—"

The redhead giggled and tiptoed in order to steal another chaste peck. "I'm kidding, Velvet."

Long ears drooped, only to perk back up again as the brunette kissed the younger girl. "I should really get going."

Ruby nodded. "I'll see ya at breakfast then."

"Yeah…See you then."

The lovers bid farewell and, while it was bittersweet, they knew that they would see each other again before long.
