A taste that she couldn't resist?

If you had known your partnership wouldn't last?
That, eventually, you would die to save her,
And she'd be willing to do the same?
Would you have let your hearts love her
If you knew you'd have to abandon her
In a place where you could never reach her again,
Just to save her life?
Would you have left her after your first encounter
If you learned your first, "I love you,"
Would never be finished?

And what of the lover,
Whose fireplace you appeared in?
Would you have snogged her,
If you knew how you would leave her?
You promised to show her the stars,
But you left her to wait for years,
And she died before you arrived.
Would you have risked such a promise
If you had known it would be broken?

And would you have invited the young doctor along
If you knew she would become infatuated with you,
But you couldn't reciprocate?

If you had known she would suffer through
You loving someone else,
Someone you could never bring back,
Would you have brought her on an adventure?
Would you voluntarily let her suffer,
Or would you have saved her
From months of miserable longing?

What about the school nurse?
Would you have landed near the school
If you realized your body would grow to love her,
But you couldn't give her all of you?
The man she loved
Was only a part of you,
But your entirety wasn't what she wanted.

So many lost loves,
So many broken hearts.

If you were given the chance,
Would you erase your past?
Would you remain
A lonely Time Traveler
To protect yourself from your fate,
To not have to break your hearts
Over and over and over again?

Or would you keep
Everything as it was?
Would you suffer the worst of heartbreaks
To be able to keep the beautiful memories?
Would you be willing to risk eventual pain
To experience the deepest kind of love,
As well as the fleeting kind?
I think you would.
That's just part of being a Time Traveler.
