Mercedes stared at the icon on her Skype contacts. Something was different and she knew exactly what it was. Usually while she waited for the notification that Sam was online, she could always look at his icon and smile at the picture of them two together from his birthday party earlier this year. Now the only thing that was looking back at her was a picture of Sam's smiling face. There was nothing too bad about that, right? The guy was allowed to change his icon if her wanted to. If that was the case, why did Mercedes' gut clinch with a bad feeling?

She waited for close to two hours before the check mark finally turned green and the alarm sounded that he was online. 'Finally.' she mumbled to herself. She looked over at the mirror on her bedside table she looked decent enough for a Skype call. Eagerly she clicked the button and waited for Sam to accept her invitation. The line rang for what seemed like forever, and then it hung up. That was weird. Sam always accepted her calls. She tried again, still having no luck. Finally, she just decided to send him a message.

M: Something wrong with your computer?

Sam Evans is typing...

-10 minutes later-

M: Sam?

S: I'm about to call you.

Mercedes sat back and waited for the call, eagerly accepting when it came through. "Hey." She smiled into the camera. Even though she was confused, she was still happy to hear from him. The last time they talked on Skype was a while ago.

"Hey.." Sam said back, tugging at his blonde hair out of frustration.

Mercedes stared at him, that nagging feeling in her gut again. "What's wrong? I know, you lied to me. Tina told me that you and Britt went to homecoming together. It's alright. I know you two are friends and I couldn't expect you to stay home." she shrugged.

Sam looked down at his lap before looking back up with a sigh. "It's not that, Cedes. I..I kinda kissed Brittany." he said finally, avoiding looking back up.

She felt like her stomach was going to fall out of her body. The entire night she kept having a feeling that something was bad was going down but she ignored it. As for now, she was seriously at a loss for words. "You kinda kissed her? Either you did, or you didn't Sam."

"I did. It just happened while we were dancing and…" he started, but Mercedes quickly cut him off.

"Kisses don't just happen Sam. You like her." she sighed, fighting the urge not to cry.

"Cedes, I love you-" he was cut off again.

"But you like her." She shook her head and sighed, she didn't even bother to wait for an answer because his silence was enough. "I gotta go, I'll talk to you tomorrow."

Quickly, she closed her laptop and sat it on the table beside her bed. Not even a minute later, her phone was ringing. Mercedes looked down at the screen, already knowing who it was. With a roll of her eyes, she turned off her phone and laid down.
