Author's Note:

I write this while I was at school a while ago... I found the prompt on reddit and really liked it, so I decided to apply it to Koroline. It didn't work out exactly how I thought it would be. I wanted it to be a bit more angsty or there abouts (something I like doing a little too much). Anyway, I thought it would be a waste to not post it. I may revise the prompt later on. :)

Based on this prompt: "You can run on for a long time, but sooner or later, God's gonna cut you down."

She would tell him "God's gonna cut you down" every time he screwed up. And it was often he did. Transcending from his malicious nature into one of good was proving a problematic feat. It was not for lack of trying; rather, Kol seemed to understand better than his siblings when his actions were wrong or right.

"Happy homicidal maniac" – he wasn't as maniacal or homicidal as his siblings once swore. Although one day recently, he decided to amuse himself by playing a game with Elena (and hence Damon's immediate and provocative involvement). That time, Caroline slapped him upside the head and yapped "God's gonna cut you down, Mikaelson". She huffed angrily every time he spoke for two days afterwards, staying strong through his (mostly charming) apologies. After all, Elena was her friend.

Unfortunately, the troublesome boy has gnawed a whole through her castle walls. Even after the damage him and his family had caused, Caroline been more forgiving towards him. He had never directly harmed them (except the time he tried to chop off Jeremy's arm—but he never aimed to kill him, right? It was merely an act of heroism, at least in his eyes).

Caroline is in control. At least, she is most of the time. She is composed and poised and graceful but there are times where her self-control slips and in those moments she looks at Kol like Elena looks at Damon. She wants to live in a world of passion but there is also a need to tame, to ensure a sense of reliability. When this happens, Caroline shakes her head and her eyes dart away—anywhere but that face she swears once walked heaven; the face with the molten gaze and the tempting, lifted smirk.

She's not overly religious; her parents drifted away from it long ago. But that doesn't stop her from telling Kol "God's gonna cut you down". At this point, he's saying it for her.

The next time they're together they are laughing in her dorm room, watching some silly show on the television, the pair of them providing commentary. It's quiet for a while before Caroline finally turns her head. That goddamned devil is already watching her. She notices the adoration (she thinks) that flecks his eyes.

She knows now as a string of curses fill her thoughts: God's going to cut her down—one cute boy at a time.
