Altaïr walked through the gate and faced the Templar captain. He was unarmed as per the captain's terms "I'm here. Now let her go." he called up to the captain. One of his guards held a young female novice hostage and Altaïr was there to arrange for her release.

"Not yet assassin."

"Templar! You said that if I came alone and unarmed you would release her and here I am just as you asked. Now release her!"

"I will assassin. Once I am sure you will not try escape your part of the deal"

"She doesn't need to see it. She's still a child."

"See what?" the young girl asked slightly scared

"Look around. What do you think?"

She looked and up on the walls were several archers with their bows drawn and all of them were aimed at her master. "No, don't do this!"

"It is not up to you to decide, besides I have already made my decision."

"You agree to the terms then?"

Altaïr bowed his head defeated and said sadly "Yes."

"Ah, very well." the captain said signaling the archers

"NO!" she screamed as arrows rained down on Altaïr. She broke free from the guard and ran to to where he'd fallen. She kneeled down next to him. His once white robes were now stained with crimson. "Altaïr...why?"

"I couldn't let anything happen to you."

She bowed her head "I'm sorry, baba," she sobbed "I should have listened to you; I shouldn't have left without one of my older brothers. I'm sorry."

Altaïr raised his hand to her cheek and smiled weakly. "Everything will be alright little one. Everything...will be...alright..."

She wanted to yell, scream, and curse at the Templars. She wanted to tell them how she'd kill them all for what they'd done. But her threats were empty. She knew she wasn't strong enough to fight them so she just sat there sobbing.

The guard she'd escaped from moved forward to reclaim her but the captain held up his hand stopping the guard. "Leave her be."

"But she's the Assassin's daughter! If we kept her prisoner, we could force them to surrender!" The guard said

"I intend to honor the deal we made: his life in exchange for hers. She is free to leave."

"Yes, captain."

She didn't know how long she had been there when she heard footsteps. Thinking it was a templar she yelled "Just leave me alone! Haven't you done enough?"

A soft voice answered her, "It's time to come home little sister."

She looked up and saw her eldest brother. She jumped up and ran to him wrapping her arms around his waist. "I'm sorry Darim! I know I shouldn't have left without you but I didn't think anything would happen and now baba is dead because of me!" She cried.

He kneeled down to her level "Shhh. This isn't your fault. It was Altair's decision, little one."

"But I caused him make it!"

"We can talk about this more later, at home." He picked her up and she wrapped her arms around his neck burying her face in his shoulder. Darim stood up carrying his little sister, and looked up to where the captain was watching him warily. He had good reason to be wary. As he walked out of the Templar camp, he looked at his little sister. She was still clinging to him and was still softly sobbing. He hugged her tightly and whispered, "You're safe now, and you won't have to worry about them again." Darim would come back later with his brother and few other assassins, and these templars would pay for what they'd done.
