This story takes place right after everyone defeats the EvilWall and gets the last of the Dark Crystals. I'm rather proud of the way it turned out, myself.

"Do you pledge allegiance to me for all eternity?"
"Yes, Master. I will be loyal forever."
"Forever."
How Kain hated to break his word. But, Golbez wasn't his master anymore. He had made that vow while under evil influences. He didn't have to keep that promise. So why did he feel so compelled to?
He was freed from the control. He was helping Cecil now. Golbez was his mortal enemy. Golbez was evil. Kain wasn't. Was he?
Forever.
That word rang in his ears. It was all he could think about while they fought through the cave and collected the last Dark Crystal. Why was he thinking about it so much? He was barely paying attention while they battled the EvilWall. He didn't care when he watched his comrades fall, one after another. He didn't even bother to use Life potions to revive them until well after the battle was over.
Forever.
Now they were all back at the entrance. Not one of them had a clue of his inner conflicts. Listening to their idle chatter, he had to wonder what was really going on in his head. Then, he heard the voice.
"Kain..."
That voice...
"Come back to me, Kain..."
It could only be...
"Bring the crystal to me..."
NO! Not Golbez! Not now! Kain didn't need him and his magic around to complicate matters. He was confused enough. He was already starting to lose control again...
"Kain? Are you going to be all right?"
Cecil...
"Kain? Don't lose control..."
Rosa! My love...
"Kain! Bring the crystal to me NOW!!!!"
All the voices in my head! I'm so confused! I love Rosa, and Cecil's my best friend... But Golbez is my Master...
Forever...
He could feel Golbez' magic pulling at him, by now an all too familiar feeling.
"No! I'm... all right!" He tried to calm everyone. He didn't want to let on, especially to Rosa, how much he was suffering. "I'm... I'm no longer under his control!"
He wished he could believe his own words. But, both he and Golbez knew he was losing the battle for his mind. It was only a matter of time before he would become a servant of evil once again...
His body moved with motions he couldn't control. He watched himself as he punched his closest companion in the gut, knocking the wind out of him. He stared on, helplessly, as he took the last Dark Crystal away from the hands of good, and ignored Rosa's pleas for him to stop.
"You wretch! How could you do this?!"
Kain heard Edge, and the full force of the Ninja's words hit him like a ton of bricks. I've betrayed them. Again. I may not be able to ask for their forgiveness this time...
Words that weren't his left his mouth.
"All the crystals are gathered now!" Kain's face twisted into a sick smile. "The way to the moon will open!"
Kain's thoughts were the only part of him he could still control. So, I suppose I must become one with the darkness again. This time, perhaps...
