Written for "The Best Feeling in the World" Challenge (I promise you that) at the HPFC.
Very cute and fluffy, although I am quite proud of it!
Disclaimer: If I were J.K. Rowling, would I really be writing this, let alone publishing it?
Feeling #17: When Little Kids Draw You Pictures
'Hey Teddy, what are you doing?'
Harry was watching his godson for the day to give Andromeda a break, and upon returning from the loo, he found the three-year-old kneeling over the kitchen table, his face screwed up in concentration.
'No Uncle Harry! You can't see it yet, I'm not done!' Teddy exclaimed, quickly covering his secret project.
'Alright, alright!' Harry chuckled, covering his eyes with his hands. 'But can I at least know what you're working on?' He heard Teddy relax and reply,
'I'm making a drawing! I got the paper and crayons from the bag Grandma packed for me!'
'Oh, alright. And there's no way you're gonna let me see before it's finished?' Harry asked, not bothering to hide his smile.
'Nuh-uh!' The little turquoise-haired boy replied.
'Fine then, what do you say I'll make us lunch while you finish your picture, and then you can show it to me, hmm?' Harry uncovered his eyes, but kept them closed.
'Okay… But promise you won't look!' Teddy said. Harry promised, and turned towards the kitchen, away from his godson.
'Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you Teddy,' Harry began as he turned back towards the table, 'Auntie Ginny's going to join us for lunch. Is that okay?' Teddy was holding the paper to his chest, and Harry saw his face light up at the mention of his "favourite aunt".
'Okay, okay, I'm leaving now.' Harry said, laughing, as he began making lunch.
Ding dong! The doorbell rang as Harry went to open the door, Teddy putting the finishing touches on his drawing. Ginny stepped into the flat, her cheeks slightly red and her vibrant hair windswept.
'Hello!' Harry said, giving her a quick peck on the lips. 'You're cold.' He observed.
'Yeah, I thought I'd walk, but it's colder outside than I expected, especially for late April.' She replied as she took off her coat. 'Is Teddy here?'
'Yeah, he's in the kitchen working on a secret drawing.' Harry said as they laughed.
'Uncle Harry, come quick! I'm done colouring now!' Teddy called out.
'Sorry, I'm just gonna –' Harry started, motioning towards the kitchen.
'Go ahead, don't worry about me.' Ginny told him as she opened the closet to hang up her coat. As Harry entered the kitchen Teddy waved him over to where he was sitting.
'Do you like it?' He asked as he pushed the paper towards Harry. The first thing Harry noticed was the writing at the top in bright red, where Teddy had put "The Besst Godfathr in the World!" As his eyes wandered down the page, Harry saw that Teddy had drawn him; jet-black hair, emerald eyes and his lightning bolt scar. He was holding his wand out in one hand, the other holding his godson's. Harry's body was surrounded by yellow to make him stand out, and suddenly he felt himself fill up with emotion. Harry turned away from the picture and knelt in front of Teddy, who wore an anxious expression on his face. As he wrapped the little boy in his arms, he finally choked out,
'I love it. Thank you, Teddy.'
His godson hugged him back as a few tears escaped Harry's eyes. Standing up, he noticed Ginny in the doorway, teary-eyed as well.
'He's right, you know,' she said, smiling. 'You truly are the best godfather in the world.'
