Just a little one-shot about our favourite hero and heroine! Inspired by Mumford & Son's 'Lover's Eyes'.
.
Well, love was kind for a time This mirror holds my eyes too bright
Now just aches and it makes me blind
I can't see the others in my life
Harry Potter felt sick and it wasn't to do with the apparation he had just performed. He tugged at his formal wizarding attire, while trying to ignore the vomit and nerves that were circling his body like snakes as he made his way towards the mostly occupied chairs that lined the aisle outside the Burrow.
Were we too young? Our heads too strong?
To bear the weight of these lover's eyes.
No-one noticed as the famous Harry Potter, the Boy-Who-Lived, snuck into the back row and sat down. All eyes were on the redheaded groom, who was anxiously standing at the front, waiting for his bride to appear. His eyes however, landed on Harry, whom he gave an awkward, half smile to, which Harry tried his hardest to return before looking away.
'Cause I feel numb, beneath your tongue
Beneath the curse of these lover's eyes.
He almost didn't come. Maybe he shouldn't have, maybe it wasn't right but he needed to see it. To see her. To see what she would have looked like in a white dress. The band started playing and Harry Potter finally got his wish.
He wished he hadn't. She looked gorgeous, emerging from the house with the white fabric of her wedding dress floating around her as she glided towards her future.
But do not ask the price I paid,
I must live with my quiet rage,
Tame the ghosts in my head,
That run wild and wish me dead.
He was frozen. He couldn't do anything but stare at her in awe, anger and sadness. He felt the familiar desperation he usually felt whenever he saw her, only now it was a thousand times worse. Here, was everything that could have been for him. Here she was, in a white wedding dress looking absolutely radiant. Only she wasn't walking towards him.
Should you shake my ash to the wind
Lord, forget all of my sins
Oh, let me die where I lie
Neath the curse of my lover's eyes.
He was still in love with her. Oh Merlin he loved her so much, still, after all this time. Even after the fights, and that fateful argument years ago. He still loved her, and it killed him that no-one knew. No-one knew what they'd been, they couldn't tell anyone. They'd barely known it themselves. But he knew now. He knew now he'd lost her to someone else, someone who deserved happiness but who didn't know that their happiness was tainted by their friend.
'Cause there's no drink or drug I've tried
To rid the curse of these lover's eyes
Harry stood up from his chair, and slipped away quietly, not knowing that his movements were followed by the sharp-eyed witch underneath the veil. Not knowing that even with her guests watching, and her fiancé waiting, she followed him.
Not knowing that Hermione Granger was still in love with Harry Potter.
And I feel numb, beneath your tongue
Your strength just makes me feel less strong
