Once an innocent...
By Rowana Farrin
I couldn't stand by, I couldn't just watch
For glory and freedom is what I was told
The disease known as war is what I had caught
I was then so young to become so old
To battle and fight brings on a strange thrill
As hundreds of foes fell to my blade
For a cause beyond self I fought and I killed
This thirst for blood, the sacrifice made
The battle long dead, I kill no more
But scars run deep and kept tight within
I find it so hard to give up the sword
Hard to forget the murderer I've been
Now I fight to protect, who I see with my eyes
The war against suffering never will die
