The Matters of Talking or Not
By: M14Mouse
Summary: While Cas looks for hope, Sam looks for faith. Companion piece to The Matters of Doing or Not Tag to Meet the New Boss
Disclaimer: Don't own them.
Sam walked this path of cars million times before.
He walked it with Dean…with Bobby…sometimes, with both or by himself. The sunlight glittered off the hoods of the cars. The air was still and quiet. He could drop a needle out here now and could hear it for miles. It was so peaceful but it was almost disconnecting. Normally, Bobby or Dean would be working on something. The rattling noise…the hammering…if he could close his eyes…he could hear it.
It was just too quiet.
He ran his hand through his hair.
A long time…or maybe not so long ago, he remembered a quote from a book…
The world wouldn't end with a bang, but with a whisper.
Yes, he was starting to believe that.
Unless people have been paying attention to the news, no one knew that Cas was about to destroy the world.
He took a deep breathe and just stopped in the middle of the path. He twisted around. His eyes darted from car to car. He hoped that Castiel would hear his plea. That he wasn't so far gone…
So far gone that he couldn't correct his mistakes.
He has been where Cas has been.
Thought that he was doing the right thing. Thought that his choices would save the world. He was wrong. He was so wrong and it cost him so many things…his friends, his brother…his sanity.
His breath got caught in his throat. He wasn't sure how long that he could hold on. Before the hallucinations drown out his sense of reality…before he couldn't fight it anymore. He needed to finish this. For himself…for Dean…for Bobby…for everyone…especially Cas.
He took a deep breath.
"Hey, Castiel."
His eyes darted around the junkyard. Nothing. He couldn't help but feel a rush of disappointment.
"Umm….Maybe this is pointless. Look…I don't a part of you even cares. But uhh…I still think that you are one of us."
Dean and Bobby have gave up on you, Cas. They have told me over and over that you can't be reached. I have faith that you are in there somewhere…
"Deep down...and way…way…way off the reservation."
Prove them wrong.
"But…we have until dawn to stop this…lets us help. Please…"
He waited for a few minutes. Nothing. The dead silence still pressed around him. Damn it…he hoped that just for a moment.
He sighed and tracked back into the house. He didn't want to go back in there. He didn't want to hear Dean tell him that he told him so.
When he walked back into the house, his brother was still watching porn on his computer. Dean looked up, picked up the bottle, and poured him a drink. He picked up the glass and set it on the other side of the desk.
He looked at the glass then at the computer with…that still going on.
No.
Just no.
"Only if you turn that off."
His brother gave him a brief look before closing the laptop down. He took a seat across from Dean. He was about to pick up the glass when he heard a familiar sound.
"Sam.."
He twisted around at the familiar voice. His eyes widen at Cas's condition. Blood was dripping on his trench coat. His skin remained him of Lucifer's former vessel. Torn…bleeding…and in ruin.
"I need help," Cas said as he leaned against the door.
Like any good friend, he said the only words that came to mind.
"Ok."
