PROLOGUE

IN THE WAKE OF JOFFREY'S MURDER, SANSA DRINKS, MARGAERY EATS, CERSEI WEEPS, OLENNA CREEPS. THE FOUR MOST POWERFUL WOMEN IN WESTEROS JOIN TOGETHER IN… THE LEMON CAKE FAIRYTALE.

"I do believe lemon cakes are in order," Lady Olenna of Highgarden suggested. Wrinkly and soggy, her pasty white fingers grasped for an equally pale cube of cheese.
"Grandmother, I have never had lemon cakes before," Margaery told her elder.
"Oh, they are fantastic, Lady Margaery, you simply must try them," Sansa added in. The Stark girl was a known lover of lemon cakes, and the Tyrells frequently teased her about it.
"I'm sure you're right Sansa," Margaery giggled. "But-"
Margaery was interrupted by a team of five servers. Each one wore doublets of vibrant blue, a silver platter balanced on each of their shoulders. "My ladies," the server said, "the lemon cakes you asked for."
"Ah, thank you my boys," Olenna thanked them. She reached for her cup in order to make room for the platters. But her attempt was quickly silenced when they instead did the duty.
"Margaery, I just know you'll enjoy them," Sansa said once more. Margaery smiled.
The servers set the platters down, removed their covers, revealing a dozen cakes each. The left.
"Well," Margaery said, picking one of them up, "let's see how they are."
Olenna and Sansa agreed. They all picked up their own cakes. As those who might tap wine glasses, they tapped the crusty edges of the cakes.
"To your and King Joffrey's wedding," Olenna toasted. Sansa nodded.
"It's tomorrow, can't believe how quickly it has arrived…" Margaery said.
Just before they could take a bite, they were interrupted by the firm voice of a Lannister. Draped in deep purple, she wore a armoured necklace. Cersei Lannister approached them with scepticism.
"Having a taste of the old diabetes?" Cersei asked, peering at the cakes dubiosly.
"Excuse me?" Olenna replied.
"You're going to get horribly obese if you keep eating cakes."
"This is my first," Margaery told her.
"It doesn't matter." Cersei grinned before walking away
