Warning!! Just a short little one-shot I did a little while ago about how Kaylee and Dustin first met. It's got NOTHING to do with the other Kaylee stories but I thought it would be fun to post. It explains why Kaylee's claustrophobic and how Ducky and Dustin helped. Once again I will say it has NOTHING to do with the other stories.
Facing your Fears
Five year old Kaylee cried as she sat in the dark closet. Some boys had fooled her into thinking there were brand new crayons in the closet. When she leaned in to look, holding her Ducky in her hands, the boys pushed her in and locked the door behind her.
Now she sat here, lost in the darkness. She held her Ducky close to her as she cried.
"Help?" her little voice called. "Tori? Mrs. Summers?"
"Quack!" Kaylee squeezed the Ducky's head so it would help her call for help. "Quack... Quack!"
She sat in the dark for another half an hour, waiting for someone to find her. The walls were getting closer and she felt as if there was no more room to breathe. That's when she heard the voice.
"Are you stuck?" it asked, knocking on the door.
Too afraid to even speak, Kaylee squeezed the Duck's head.
"Quack!"
"Are you a duck?" the little boy asked, opening the door in case the little ducky was afraid. "You're not a duck!"
The little girl jumped into the arms of her hero and started crying even harder. The little boy held her in his arms.
"Do you want ice cream?" the boy asked, knowing that always calmed him down. "My favourite is chocolate!"
Kaylee looked at the boy.
Kaylee was now seventeen and that face was still in her mind. Whenever she was lost, or scared, she would think of Dustin. She would always call out for Ducky, but in her mind, Dustin was the only thing that kept her calm. Really, the only reason Ducky was of any comfort to Kaylee was because Ducky would always remind her of that little boy who had saved her when she was stuck. It had become a reflex. In the years between the time in the closet and the time they met again at the Academy, Ducky would remind her of Dustin, and how he saved her when she thought she was lost in her fear.
