-AWESOME LINES-
Prologue:
Ten years ago:
Four boys surround their only sister in a group hug, tears falling from their eyes. The oldest of the four released her and the other three followed his example.
Ears on top of their heads twitching slightly in the night's warm breeze keeping them alert as they stare at her trying to keep the image of the girl in their minds for as long as possible. Finally the eldest spoke, "Meryl, you know that we love you, but it isn't safe for you here any more."
The twelve year old nods as tears stream down her face and she brushes them away. The two second eldest stand beside her, "It will be ok kid," one of them says. "We will make sure that you can't be found." Said the other, their violet blue eyes shone sadly as they said this.
"Come on Meryl don't be such a cry baby," a fourth voice said interrupting the twins. Looking up she found a boy that looked like her with a dark blue eyes and light blue hair, opposite to her light blue eyes and dark blue hair, tears and snot streaming down his face. He was trying very hard to not break down into a sobbing mess. "There's nothing to worry about, I'll make sure that she can't find you." He tried offering her a smile that made her smile in return. "Thanks brother."
"Meryl," she looked over to the first person that had spoken to her, "I know this seems unfair, but I am going to lock your memories of us. In the best case you won't need them and will be able to live a normal life like mother wanted, other wise you will be hunted down until you are brought to back and encased in a bulb."
Meryl's eyes widened, "That isn't fair, I don't wanna forget you guys." More tears start gushing down her face, "What about papa? The girls? I don't wanna forget mama."
Her brother to her right scowled, "We don wanna let you go either, think how hard it is for us ta have ta stay here? This is for the best kid. Worry about yourself, we'll worry about those brats."
Her brother to her left smiled sadly, "And about father, I am sure he won't even notice you are gone. This won't be forever, one day we will find each other again. Right now we need you safe and away. As we speak she plots against us and especially you."
"Why does she fear me so much? I have never done anything to her."
"She has always feared what she couldn't understand." They all gasped and turned to see a tall silhouette, "Milly! Make some freaking noise will you?" Milly rubbed the back of her neck and let out a nervous laugh, "Sorry Mr. Wiley. I just wanted to let you know the caravan will be arriving soon." Milly stepped out and gave them some space to say their good byes.
"Right, everyone gather round and place a hand on Meryl's head." Light started to flow from their hands as they locked Meryl's memory of them. Once it faded she opened her eyes slightly and looked a little drowsy. "What's going on?" She asked as she wiped her face with a hand she looked around and found herself standing in the middle of an empty room. "Meryl?" She turned to see a taller girl, "Are you ready to go? The caravan is here." The twelve year old nodded and looked down at her feet where she found a small suit case waiting, looking back up she walked towards the mirror hanging near by she taking a quick look at herself her hair black and eyes light gray not a hair out of place, no ears on top of her head. Wait, ears? She placed a hand on top of her head patting lightly and sighed, what an odd thought she'd just had.
Picking up her suitcase she followed the tall girl out of the room who had started talking about her family, "My family is going to be happy to have you stay with us. Eldest big big brother is great at cooking..." As they walked away from the room only Milly noticed four pairs of sad eyes watch them leave. She made a mental promise that she would help keep Meryl safe.
-AWESOME LINES-
When the caravan finally disappeared in the distance the four turned to return to their duty. "Come brothers we have work to do." Wiley, the oldest of them said. He swiftly leaped from his perch on the roof of the shack that they had brought Meryl to and started to walk down wards toward the small populated town.
"I gotta say Wiley, changing her appearance was a stroke of genius." One of the violet blue eyed boys said.
"I am worried, Wiley, perhaps we should have changed her name as well?" The other said brows knitting downwards.
"No Renard, Stryfe is a common enough surname and everyone back home knows her by Vixen anyway, hardly anyone knows her true name." Wiley looked back at the youngest of them who was still lagging behind, "Deryl are you going to be alright?"
"Perhaps you should let me handle him, brother." Renard said as he walked towards the young boy. His twin snorted, "It ain't like anyone of us liked this idea. We had ta do what we thought best. He should get over it and be glad she is safe."
Renard sent his brother a glare, "I suppose you would be able to 'get over it' if it had been me, Raynard," hugging Deryl in a light embrace, "having every memory of my loved ones locked away and forgetting about you? I thought you of all people would understand." Raynard looked away from his brother in shame.
Upon arriving at the edge of town Wiley said, "Masks." Silently they walked through the sleeping town as the moons shone over it. Reaching their destination they entered the house and left as quickly and quietly as they came, they would be long gone the time the suns came up, they don't like their job, but someone has to keep order and they need to keep their mother and sister safe.
The next morning screaming was heard from the same house that the four boys had entered, everyone rushed towards the house and upon reaching they found the town mayor dead in his bed, with no clue as to who could have done it.
A/N: I started this story eight years ago and looking back makes me want to face palm badly, so many mistakes and errors. So I am going to rewrite it hopefully it turns out better this time around, I am going to keep as close to my original plot as I can but every one is going to through some changes.
