I don't own Zatch Bell or any of the trademark characters. Blah blah…let's get on with the story eh?

Chapter 1:The mamodo of the Grey book

Zachary was a young boy with very little friends. He was easily identified by his glasses and thick brown hair. Most thought of him as a snot-nosed genius, thinking he was better than everyone else. Truth was, according to Zach, he just kept an open mind. Due to his smarts however, he had very little friends.

As he was walking home one day, nose in a book as per usual, he heard something. He looked in some bushes to find a boy dressed in shabby clothing. The boy was no older than 6 years old. "Hey there." said Zach. The boy looked up. He had odd marks on his face.

Zach shut this out of his head. "What's wrong? You lose your parents?" asked Zach. The boy was silent. Zach stared. "Don't you have parents?" The boy shook his head. "You poor kid. Well then," said Zach as he offered his hand to the boy, "You can come home with me. We'll get you fixed up in no time!"

The boy looked at him and took his hand. "Thank you mister" said the boy. "My name's Zach and you'll call me that. No mister stuff. I hate formal titles." said Zach. "Right…." Answered the boy. "What's your name?" asked Zach. The boy was silent for a few minutes but finally answered "Kori"

1 hour later

Zach walked into his house, Kori following right behind. "Hey mom! I'm home!"

A voice came from the kitchen. "Welcome home Zach!"

A women walked out wearing a dress. She had blond hair and green eyes. "Oh my! Who's this" asked Zach's mom. "This is Kori. May he stay here for now? He doesn't have any parents." Answered Zach. "The poor dear, of course he can." Said Zach's mom as she walked up to Kori. "Why don't you go upstairs and take a bath." Suggested Zach's mom. "That sounds nice." Answered Kori as he took his backpack off.

Zach put his hand out. "I'll take it up to my room. You can sleep there with me. I have a bunk bed from when my older brother was here" said Zach, as he smiled. "Thanks Zach" said Kori as he handed Zach his backpack.

Zach went upstairs as Kori went into the bathroom. As Zach entered his room, he tripped, dropping Kori's backpack and spilling his stuff. All that was in there was clothes and an odd grey book. Zach picked the grey book up and opened it. "What the heck? I can't understand any of th-Hold on. I can understand this phrase….The first spell is Doraigha?"

In that instant, he heard his mother scream. "What in the!" Zach yelled as he ran down. He stopped as he found his mom, panting like she saw a ghost. He looked into the bathroom to see Kori, holding a spear. "What the? Kori…..how?" asked Zach. Kori blinked. "I'll explain later." He said as he tossed the spear on the ground. It promptly vanished.

Kori took an hour to finish washing before finally going upstairs. Zach was at his computer, looking up info. "What'cha doing?" asked Kori. Zach looked at him. "Trying to find out info on the writing in this book. I can only understand what's in grey." Kori looked at the ground. "That's because we need to get stronger." Kori said. Zach just stared at him. "What do you mean?"

Kori looked at him and explained everything. The mamodo battle for king, the spells, how burning his book sends him back to the mamodo world. "Wow….and I'm caught up in all this…..Well….At least I made a friend out of the deal." Zach said, smiling at Kori. "Does that mean you'll help me?" Kori asked. Zach just smiled. "Of course I will!"
