A strange source of comfort.
I looked up as a wave of cold green light washed over the cave. Aang rose out of his crystal tent, his tattoos glowing. I smiled weakly. We were saved!
Then, everything started to go in slow motion. I was staring up at Aang as a flicker of electric blue caught my eye. I frowned, then gasped as Aang, froze. In mid-air, be begun to shake as a powerful surge of lightning his him squarely in the back. I watched, horrified, as he started to fall. Tears began to leak from the corners of my eyes. I swirled the water around me, and created a wave, so that I could catch him. I wouldn't let anything hurt him anymore.
I caught him gently, as General Iroh appeared.
"You've got to get out of here! I'll hold them off for as long as I can!" he yelled at me. I nodded, then pulled a thick spiral of water away from the small waterfall, and used it to fly upwards.
I don't know how I got Aang onto Appa. It was all a blur of questions and anxious faces. Toph was the quietest I'd ever seen her.
In the air, a gentle breeze ruffled my hair, as I pulled the special vial up over my face. The water glowed blue in my hand as I gently pressed it into the wound.
Please let this work. Please let this work! I thought over and over as the blue illuminated the gaping hole wound in his back. The glow faded, and Aang remained limp and pale in my arms. I pulled him too me, and chocked out a sob. Whenever I'd cried before, he had always helped me, with his warm arm around my shoulders and his playful smile. Through my eyelids burned a bright white light. I opened my eyes, and looked down at him.
His eyes were open, and as they found mine, he smiled faintly. I smiled back and pulled him into the fiercest gentle hug I could manage. Yet again, he had managed to coax a grin from these lips, even after his near death.
What a strange source of comfort he was.
