Should've been my team mate, could have changed your fate...

Draco Malfoy was walking across the bridge with his mother and his father not far behind when he heard a scream from behind him, turning round to face the crowd of students and professors he saw Potter standing there in front of everyone just looking at him. "Malfoy come back here now!" Potter had started running towards him and his parents. Looking back at his mother, "This won t take long, go on ahead."

He walked up to Potter and waited for his parents to apparate, "What do you want Potter, it's over, he's dead, leave and get on with your life like the rest of us." Harry just looked into Draco's eyes wanting to hold Draco like he had done so many times before but he couldn't, everyone was there and Draco would kill him if he tried. "You're deserting everything we had, at the last moment you switched to the right side to avoid Azkaban and now you don't want anything to do with me?"

Draco thought back to the first time he'd met Potter back in the first year, he remembered how he'd kind of wanted Potter to get sorted into Slytherin because there was something between them that Draco had never felt before. Then he thought to how he'd wanted to help Potter but how Potter had been bitter towards him, and how he'd already made friends with a Weasley. There were so many occasions where he'd wanted to help Potter but instead his father and Snape had made him do the exact opposite. He wondered what things would be like if him and Potter had been friends, whether their relationship would've taken a different direction and sooner rather than in the penultimate year at Hogwarts.

Coming back to reality he saw Harry just stood there with his hand on his face, "What are you doing Potter, people will see." He smacked the other boy s hand away instantly missing the warm touch against his cold, pale skin. "Look around Draco, there's no one around, they've all left. Can we talk?" Draco looked into Harry's eyes seeing the dismay in the boys eyes grabbed the boys arm and dragged him to the boat house where they could talk without a worry of being bothered by anyone.

"Well, talk if that's what you want." Turning back almost walking into Potter who was standing incredibly close to Draco, he could feel the breath of Potter on his neck. "Look Harry, not now, I still love you but I can't do this right now, I need to see how my parents are reacting to the death of their leader and what's going to happen to us now." Harry stepped back and sat on one of the lower rafters that held the boats in which they pair had first met "Whatever helps you sleep at night Draco." Looking up from the ground he saw the look of guilt on Draco's face, he went to apologize for the harsh comment that had escaped without him thinking. "Harry, I love you and once this has quietened down we'll be okay again, there is nothing in this that makes me want to lose you but I just need time." With that he walked over to where the other boy was sat and standing on his tiptoes he just manages to catch Harry's lips with his own.

For that split second nothing else mattered in the world to either of them, only the pair knew of this relationship and they'd agreed that this was the way it was staying, for now at least. Pulling away from the kiss before he'd fall over due to the strain on his toes he turned away from Harry, "Goodbye Harry, I love you." With that Draco had apparated god knows where and he'd left Harry to think about his next actions.
