This is my FIRST oneshot. So… wish me luck!

Link, as a wolf, finished off the last Poe and Midna patted him on the back.

"Only seventeen more to go, Link!" Midna said optimistically. Link huffed and kept walking.

"Come on, don't you want a fancy heart container?"

Link rolled his eyes and kept going. Why did everything have to be so hard to earn one heart?

"It's either Poes or the Cave of Ordeals. Your choice."

Link trotted towards the nearest circle of rocks and dug through the middle. Sure enough, two Poes were waiting for him. They both spun their glowing lanterns at him and knocked Link over. Snarling, Link charged at it. Finally, it fell to the ground. He then ripped the soul out and went for the next one.

After that was over, Link smiled, his tongue lopping over the side of his mouth and drool rolling down his tongue. Some trickled down his fur and landed on Midna's tiny foot.

"Ew! Gross! Keep your germs to yourself!" she snapped. "Now get going! The more life the merrier!"

Link hunched his shoulders and walked towards the moonlight coming down through the hole. It lifted him up to ground level and he full out sprinted to wherever. Midna was holding on for dear life, and Link decided to do it again for fun. Midna was still holding on, but by the hairs of his mane, and it was starting to hurt. Link went for Lanayru Province and the river that went through there since it was closest. Link started paddling through the water and Midna let her feet dangle into it. Then Link toppled to his side and Midna flipped into the water.

"That's not funny!" Midna yelled, her hair covering most of her face.

Link panted happily and splashed some water onto her face, getting the hair out of it. Link went over to her and licked the side of her face.

"If you were human, I would slap you so hard your nose would bleed."

Link whimpered.

"Don't look at me like that!"

Link turned his head toward the water, but his eyes remained focused on Midna.

"No puppy eyes!" Midna snapped.

Link looked down at his reflection in the water. Midna looked at him, her eyes turning down from the sadness that seemed to radiate off of his furry body.

"Fine. But only for a little while. We need to collect the Poes and defeat the Cave of Ordeals and then go restore the light to the world!"

Link smiled and splashed water onto her, and Midna laughed and shielded her face with her arms. Link then started to swim away, and Midna followed him, still laughing. She splashed his tail, and then caught up with him to get his face.

Finally, when they got cold enough to get out, they sat on the edge of the river, the tiny waves lapping at their feet.

Link scooted over closer to Midna when his fur was mostly dry to warm her up. She huddled into his side and leaned against him. Link licked her face again.

"You know, it's much easier to be around you while you're a dog."

Link looked at her.

"No offence or anything."

Link huffed playfully, then tackled her.

"Hey! You may be strong but," Midna struggled against Link's paws, which had her pinned to the ground, "I have my magic!"

Link continued to stare at her.

"I know I wouldn't use it against you but…"

Link smiled and panted.

"Get off of me, okay?"

Link agreed and looked at the rising moon.

Midna got up and looked at the forests surrounding her, and the silhouette of Hyrule Castle over the trees.

Suddenly something cold hit Midna on the back, and she jumped at least a foot in the air, and her magic kicked in to hold her there, suspended in the air.

She turned around and there was Link, his long tongue lopping over the side of his mouth, a flopping fish at Midna's feet.

"Why you…"

Midna jumped at Link, her smile reaching her dark red eyes, and they played for the rest of the hour.

What a beautiful, growing friendship.
