A/N: Hello everyone, thanks for stopping by! Originally, this was a part of my Marichat one shot collection "A Smitten Kitten & A Lovestruck Princess" but since there wasn't much Marichat in it I decided to upload it separately.
Prompt: In which the power of the Miraculous can transcend hundreds of lifetimes, but both Ladybug and Chat Noir know where to go when it all ends: to each-other.
Mix of LadyNoir, Tikki&Plagg and a hint of Marichat.
Rating: T
Disclaimer: I don't own Miraculous Ladybug!
Enjoy! :3
Immortal Life
He was looking for a place to die.
He had transcended lifetimes and eras only mentioned in history books, he had survived hundreds of wars and even more small-scale battles, he had watched faces of people he could call comrades vanish from the earth one after the other until others replaced them anew after years. The strings that were supposed to support his beating heart were no longer, his heart left to hang by a thin thread, barely hanging on.
Such was his life.
His life as Chat Noir.
His eyes, so ancient and old, far older than his appearance let on, softened in sadness.
The flowers in his grasp fell to the disturbed earth at his feet along with a few drops of clear liquid that were his tears.
On the gravestone was his lady's name, the only one that had shared his fate and now she too, was gone.
But he had promised to join her in the afterlife.
He was prepared to die.
After witnessing all that caused the eras to change and evolve, after watching humanity repeat their mistakes over and over, he knew, not even their powers as Miraculous wielders could change the ways of the world.
Vibrant green, cat-like eyes gazed intently at the tombstone of his counterpart and a rueful, fanged grin stretched his face, "I'll see ya soon, Tikki,"
The ancient god of destruction was no more and Adrien was left with the ring and the power of Chat Noir to continue protecting Paris.
He didn't know how it was possible, but even without Plagg, he could still become Chat Noir, the ancient power of bad luck and destruction still coursing through his ring, but this time without the familiar beeping signaling Plagg was hungry.
He no longer had a kwami to feed, after all.
His feet had automatically carried him to the one place he subconsciously wished to be in, he was soundless when he landed on her balcony but her hatch opened and the figure shot out of it as if she sensed his presence.
Marinette had hugged him as soon as she saw him, crying for reasons unknown to him, he thought the death of a family member, but little did he know her cries were the same reason his own heart had felt so heavy and broken.
They've both lost their kwamis.
With their hearts crying out, both Chat Noir and Marinette stayed within each-others embrace, sobbing quietly and drawing strength from one another.
Chat caressed her cheek softly, "Marinette…" his eyes were sad and pained.
She shook her head, "Chat…" she was about to open her mouth, to tell him, but she couldn't, instead she glanced once at her desk and buried her face in his chest.
What he saw on her desk made him freeze with realization.
The familiar dark box where the Miraculous had been stored in was on her desk, open and empty, just like their hearts.
And suddenly, he understood.
With fresh tears stinging the back of his eyes, he hugged her tighter and she sobbed louder.
"Oh princess…" tremors wracked her body and he could feel his own one was shaking, with realization, with sadness, "M'lady…it's alright,"
She shook her head against his shoulder, but he gently broke away to lift her gaze up to him, his eyes sad, pained, red from crying, but there was a sliver of hope in them as well, "We still have each-other," his hands squeezed her shoulders reassuringly, "And…that's enough, right?"
She answered him by hugging him tightly, nodding into the crook of his neck.
"I'm…glad I still have you kitty," he found the affectionate rubbing of her fingers at the nape of his neck and in his hair comforting, soothing, like the long gone comfort his mother used to offer him in what seemed like a lifetime ago.
"Always," and she sobbed harder at the sincerity in his words.
