(Or why we just whiled away the time)
While watching TNOT Burning Diamond again I noticed that the boys just sit tight, tied back-to-back in Midas' laboratory while he and Lucretia are at the International Jewel Exhibition. Why? Here's my explanation.
Midas' Laboratory in Lady Margaret Midas' house
"I really hate it when people tie us up back-to-back," Artie complained.
"It does make communication a little difficult," Jim agreed, "but it supplies a much-needed break from having to look at your face."
"Very amusing, James, now what do you have on you to help us escape?"
"Escape?"
"Yes, you know, get us away from here. You must have noticed that we're being held captive by a mad man."
"Oh, him."
"Yes him. We haven't got all day. He and his weird fiancée will be back from casing the exhibition soon."
"Why weird?"
"She's attracted to you isn't she?"
"Ah…I hate to tell you this, Artie…"
"What?"
"I've decided to stay here."
"You've decided to…..Jim!"
"Well, look at it logically. If we escape and leave here how will we find Midas again? With us on the loose he'll just up sticks and move to another location. Once he drinks that elixir of his we could pass him on the street and never even know he was there."
"If he really has such a thing; we haven't see absolute proof of that."
"That's all the more reason to stick around. Anyway, I want to know more about his plans."
"You want to know more? Well how about I escape on my own? I don't need gadgets, I could just use force?"
"Artie."
"I know, that would be cheating."
"Right, so just sit here and wait for them to come back."
"Okay. I spy with my little eye….."
"You do realise I'm not facing the same way as you, don't you."
