A/N: Hi, I'm new to fanfiction! I've read stories on here all the time but never actually thought about writing one. Anyway, I like the stories where Edward is a new vampire or he's coming back from his rebellion. So I decided to make one of my own.

Summary: Edward is just finished changing into a vampire, this follows his journey. This is an AU, the rest of the Cullen Family are already vampires. There is no Bella, Charlie, Jake, Renesmee, Jessica, Mike….you get the point.

Disclaimer: I don't own anything Stephine Myers does!

I promised. I promised I wouldn't change anyone anymore and I managed to keep my promise for centuries. Looking up at my family I could see their faces and I can easily see that a few of them didn't agree with my decision. Guilt plowed into me as we all looked at the boy who laid, withering, in the bed. We tried to see if our son, Jasper could try and calm him down but we quickly ruled that out when Jasper too became overwhelmed in pain. A calming feeling came over me and I turned my head to look at the said man. He gave me a small smile before turning his attention back to the boy. A hand grabbed mine and I looked to see my wife, Esme, staring up at me lovingly. God, I am a luck man.

A tortured scream snatched my focus away from the beautiful creature before me and back to the boy. His bronze hair was wet from the sweat that collected there. His youthful face twisted in pain. His back arched off the table as his scream turned into a groan.

"How old?" Rosalie asked as she glared at the boy.

"Seventeen," I whispered but with our vampire hearing she was able to hear me.

She turned and glared at me. "Seventeen!" she shrieked. "He's still a kid!" Our other son, Emmett put his arm around his wife's shoulder but she jerked away violently. "No Emmett, Carlisle changed a kid! Someone who has his whole life ahead of him. Jasper stop with the emotions!"

"Hey don't get mad at Jasper. He's doing the best he can with all these emotions go around," my sweet daughter Alice defended.

"Oh he's going to have one hell of a time with emotions when this kid wakes up."

"Rose, I understand you are upset but I couldn't leave him. I promised his mother."

"Promised his mother? What the hell does that mean?"

"I was in the hospital checking on him and his mother. His father had already passed away. Mrs. Masen was nearly gone when I arrived. Before she died she asked me to 'Do what no other has done for my son.'"

Rosalie scoffed, "I highly doubt turning him is what she had in mind."

I let out a long sigh as I ran a hand across my face. Esme rubbed my back soothingly as she turned and looked at our daughter. "Rose, sweetheart, now is not the time to talk about this. We can figure out all of this later but right now we need to wait for him to wake up."

"Edward." Alice said excitedly.

"What dear?"

"His name is Edward," she informed as she smiled brightly. We all looked back at the boy who long ago grew silent.

"How long has it been?" Emmett asked as he looked the boy I damned to eternal hell.

"Three days, he's going to wake up in a couple hours. We should probably get ready." Alice announced with glee. Jasper nodded and started giving instructions to the other three of our children. Rosalie looked as if she were swallowing glass as a human but she reluctantly did as she was instructed.

Esme grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the door. "Come on, lets go hunt. Alice said it will be a couple hours. Your eyes are black, you need to hunt." I opened my mouth to protest but she gave me a look. The same look that said happy wife happy life. Releasing a sigh, I nodded and allowed her to pull me from the room and out into the woods that surrounded our house. The wind brushed past us as we sped through the trees, Esme's hair whipping wildly behind her, sending the sent of her honey shampoo straight at me. Even though she never let go of my hand, she still glanced back at me as if she were checking to see if I was still following. She smiled brightly at me with a mischievous glint in her eyes. She let go of my hand and turned forward before speeding up and flying away from me. She wanted to race. A race she shall have.

I leaned forward and sprinted forward. Small forest creatures scattered as we passed. Esme's laugh lifted into the air causing me to smile. If there was one thing that made all my troubles disappear, it was this beautiful creature ahead of me. I watched as she jumped over a creek and landed gracefully on the other side. I stopped just short of the river but didn't jump to meet her. Sensing I wasn't with her she turned and gave me a concerned look.

"Carlisle?" I looked at her and watched as she tilted her head to the side while placing her hands on her hips. I sat down on the ground as she jumped back on my side. She came over and kneeled in front of me, placing her hands on both sides of my face, forcing me to look at her. "Carlisle, talk to me."

Staring into her golden eyes, I opened my mouth to say something, anything that would put her mind at ease but a deer made the mistake of wondering down to the very creek we were at. It lazily dipped its head to take a drink not caring that its predators sat a few feet from it. Esme glanced at it before looking back at me and nodding her head towards it. "Go ahead."

"No, you should go, I insist."

She chuckled before releasing my face. "Always a gentleman. That's sweet, but my eyes aren't the ones that are black." Her voice held an accusatory tone. Stepping back she once again nodded towards the deer. "Go." Nodding I stood and looked at the deer who finally seemed to notice our presence. It turned and started to run away just as I pounced. My hands got a hold of its neck as I twisted immediately. The animal fell in an ungraceful heap on the ground and I landed on top of it. I'm not my son Emmett who insist that every creature I drink from has to put up a fight. I wanted them to die as soon as possible so they didn't have to suffer. Ripping the flesh at its neck I cut its vein with my teeth and started drinking. The blood from the animal hit my tongue and set off something in me. I started sucking the creature dry as if it were my last life line. Soon the animal was completely dry. No blood was left in its veins. I pushed the creature away from me and stood. Esme sat on a rock staring at me with the same concern she had before.

"What's wrong?" I asked as I abandoned the dead carcass and went to my wife.

"I don't know you tell me Carlisle. You've been a million miles away these past couple of days. You are usually the first one telling the kids to go hunt but you allow yourself to go days without hunting."

"I know-"

"No, let me finish. You work in a hospital Carlisle. Out of all of us, you are the main one who needs to make sure you are fed. Then you come home with a boy you bit, without feeding might I add. I'm not upset because you bit him, I'm sure you have your reasons and I respect that, but you didn't feed before doing so. What if you lost control?"

"Esme, I truly am sorry. It was poor thinking on my part. I barely noticed."

"Carlisle Cullen, I love you. You are my anchor, you keep me grounded. Everytime I'm around a human and can smell their blood, I think back to how you are strong enough to resist human blood so I try to do the same. I can't be strong and do that if you don't feed and take care of yourself." Hearing my wife's confession made the guilt I'm feeling increase ten times more. I ran a hand through my hair and stared at the dead deer I still have yet to bury. There's no way in the world I could meet her eyes. However, she seemed to have other plans. She once again grabbed my face and forced me to look at her. "Please talk to me."

I opened my mouth and tried to find the words but they wouldn't form. She waited patiently until the words finally formed and rolled off my tongue.

"Did I make the right choice?"

Esme frowned in confusion so I elaborated. "Changing him, did I make the right choice. I made all of you a promise that I wouldn't change anyone else and I did just that. His mom was dying when she asked me, so she wouldn't have know the difference, right? Did I change him out of selfishness? Maybe I should have let the illness take him and-"

"Carlisle Cullen, don't you dare finish that sentence!" Esme snapped. Her sweet voice filled with astonishment shook the trees nearby. "For you to even think such a thing!" Her golden eyes went wide as she stared at me as if she didn't recognize me.

Letting out a sigh, I tried to do some damage control but she already stood. "Listen, only you know why you changed him. When you figure that out, you let me know. In the meantime, we should finish hunting. We don't have long before he wakes up."

"Esme-"

"Carlisle, please. Let's just go hunt." She said in the same tone she uses with the kids. The one that says I'm being polite and patient but I do not under any circumstances want to talk right now. Nodding, I stood and buried my meal before I turned and held out my hand to her. She looked down at it before she turned and ran ahead to continue hunting. Looking after her, I waited a few seconds before following her.

We continued hunting in silence for about a good hour or so. Esme had long ago stopped hunting but she stood by and watched as I continued to fill my stomach. I attempted to talk to her a couple times but she would just stare at me with kind eyes and said only one word. "Hunt." After a while I gave up and decided to give her the space she wanted. The only sound that carried across the air was from the leaves when the wind blew. I just finished another deer and buried it when her phone rang. Looking at her I watched as she answered it. Turning away, I focused on something else to give her privacy. Seconds later she called my name. Looking back at her she waved her phone.

"The kids were trying to call you but you left your phone at the house. Edward's waking up." Nodding, we raced back to the house arriving just as the seventeen year old opened his eyes.
