For a few minutes, all he could do was stare.

This boy in front of him—this Homunculus—was feeding the birds. Holding a handful of seeds, Envy sat cross-legged, beckoning the pigeons to come to his waiting hands. The birds obeyed, pecking at the food he held. The green-haired Sin smiled in a gentle way. His eyes were cold.

In an instant, the pigeons dropped to the ground, as lifeless as stone. At the sight, Envy threw back his head and laughed, his shoulders shaking with mirth as more and more birds fell to the ground. The seeds slid through his fingers, pooling to the ground in front of him. Plucking a feather from a cardinal, the Homunculus twirled the light object between his thumb and forefinger, still snickering a little. Slowly, he plucked the small hairs off the blood-red feather, letting them float to the ground.

Alphonse shuddered, almost glad he was inside of suit of armor still. He watched horrified, as Envy looked up from his cruel play, and gazed at him through reptilian eyes. A smirk slithered across his face. Holding the feather—could it even be called that, now?—the Sin blew the red twig towards Alphonse. It landed limply in his hands. "For you." Envy's eyes seemed to say, a taunting look in his cat-like orbs. Slowly, the Homunculus slid gracefully to his feet, silently stepping towards the young Elric. In his hands he held a bag of seeds.

Al had never run so fast in his life.
