Just a quick, cute oneshot.

Edwin Braun had been in love with Carter Mason for as long as he could remember. Even though he fell lovingly instep as her bestfriend, he could still remember the first time he had seen her when he was eight years old. He had been sitting on the bench at interval, because Donnie Richards—the popular guy, even back then—hadn't let him play soccer. Carter had come out of a classroom and was standing beside him, arms crossed, a cute pout played out across her face. Ed had looked at her and fallen in love straight away. She was looking at the soccer ball as if it was taking all of her might just to stop herself from running onto the field. One of the boys had fallen over and twisted his ankle, and the boys all stopped playing since they couldn't play with even teams anymore. Carter had stormed onto the field, insisting she could play as good as any boy. She had been so defiant they were all too scared to not let her play.
As the years went on, he just fell even more in love with her. He watched when Donnie kissed her after a game of basketball, and then went and told all of his friends. Carter hadn't told anyone, even him, although he thought she might have told Rosie Gonzales. She had just gone around with a small smile on her face for the rest of the day, her cheeks glowing. Ed had never told her that he knew, but he wished every day of his life he had the guts to just go up to her and do the same.
And now, everything was a bit weird. Rosie had turned out to be this big princess chick, who was working undercover. And then Carter had pretended to be her to save her. And then Carter's dad came in and saved everyone, and Rosie was then made of queen of the weird little place where she lives. And now they were home, packing to go to college and Ed still had no idea what he was going to do about Carter. They were going to colleges which were very close together, and Carter seemed excited about that, but only in the friend way.
Ed was sick of being thought of only in the friend way.
Taking a deep breath, he walked down the stairs of his house and got into his truck, revving the engine and driving down his rocky driveway in the direction of Carter's house. He didn't know what he was going to say, or why he was going, all he knew was that he really needed to see her. He pulled up outside the house and saw her straight away out at the bait shack, moving pails from outside the shack, inside. He killed the engine and got out of the car, walking over. She looked up and smiled at him, a smile which made him melt everytime she sent one in his direction.
"Hey, Ed, what's up?" She asked, picking up more pails and leading him inside. She was wearing a sleeveless shirt which showed her smooth, tanned arms. Ed took a deep breath and blurted out,
"I love you." Carter raised her eyebrows and looked at him for a moment. Then shrugged and said,
"Okay, I love you too. Now can you help me take these inside?" Ed froze for a second. That wasn't quite the response he had been hoping for. Admittedly, it was better than what it could have been, if she had completely shot him down, but he had to get this out.
"No, Carter!" Ed grabbed her arm, causing her to drop the pails. She frowned in confusion. "I really love you. Not in the friend way. In the other way. I've been in love ever since you insisted they let you play soccer." Carter's frown stayed for a moment longer before she leaned up and kissed him quickly on the mouth. Ed was frozen on the spot for a second and then smile spread across his face.
"Then it's a good thing we're going to college's close to each other," she responded, smiling. Then she picked up the pail she had dropped it and gave it to him. "Now, help me take these inside." Ed gladly followed her inside.
