Lily walked quickly behind Lorcan as he dragged her out of the castle early one Sunday morning. He had been saying he had a surprise for her planned all week, always getting overexcited whenever he mentioned it. She had to keep reminding him that the point of a surprise was not for her to know before hand. It seemed however, he couldn't wait any longer. After meeting him in the dark corridors, they practically ran before he led her out to the Quidditch Pitch.
He walked off a bit to the broom shed leaving her in the opening of the Pitch. It was very chilly this morning and Lily shivered, wishing Lorcan had at least told her to wear something a bit warmer since he knew they were going outside.
She had been so caught up thinking about the cold that she jumped when he came behind and tapped her on the shoulder, his broom over his own shoulder. He chuckled at her flustered expression before mounting the broom.
"Are you coming?" he asked.
Lily crossed her arms over her chest and said coolly, "It depends on where we're going."
"I've been bursting to tell you all this week and this is when you ask me?" Lorcan asked. Then he laughed, "Just jump on Lily. Don't you trust me?"
Of course she trusted him. He had been her first friend at Hogwarts when she was sorted in First Year. She had her cousins and her siblings, but they had to be friends with her. Lorcan and his brother liked her for her and were her friends when no one else would be. It was just recently however he had asked her to be his girlfriend. It had been a funny day actually, involving a chatty Lorcan, an annoyed Lysander and an awkward kiss.
That had now led to this moment, an invitation on a flight. Lily bit her lip and then climbed on wordlessly. She had been eager to find out the surprise herself and didn't want to ruin it after all this time.
He wrapped his arms around her from behind and kicked off the ground, the two of them raising high into the air.
"Now close your eyes," Lorcan whispered into her ear. She glared at him before obeying. This had better be good.
They floated a bit higher until Lorcan said, "Open them."
Lily opened them slowly and then her mouth opened in awe. The sun was just peaking over the horizon, its rays dim enough to allow her to look directly at it. There were so many colours, ranging from the reddest reds to the midnight blues. The Black Lake shimmered, reflecting the small amount of orange and the few remaining stars that had not disappeared.
"Do you like?" Lorcan whispered again.
Lily turned on the broom and wrapped her arms around his neck before drawing him into a deep kiss. When they released she leaned back against his chest and sighed. "I love," she whispered.
