The Gotham City Orphanage was nothing new for me. Being a social worker and all. But this case…it was a more special case than usual, at least…that's what they said. The young boy, Jack Napier if I recall correctly, had been taken in for child abuse, poor child.
"Ms. Naples?" the secretary asked. I stood. "You can meet with him now."
I walked into the room where I saw him sitting in a corner of his all white room, with only a bed and a light, which shocked me.
"Hello," I called out, sitting down on the floor. He didn't turn, but he responded to me.
"Hi," he said meekly. "I'm Jack. My parents are in a mental institute. Who are you?"
I was shocked, yet again. My heart went out to him, but, I felt an eerie-- sort of electric-- feel in the room. Chilling, even.
"I'm Victoria Naples. Nice to meet you Jack. How are you today?" He turned to face me, and my breath hitched. His face was scarred, as if…a cruel smile.
"You like my scars?" he asked, innocently. I said nothing, but my eyes said it all, wide with fear.
"My mum did that to me. Said I didn't smile enough. My dad did the other one," he said. He walked over to me, and, by instinct, I scooted back. He gave me a twisted smile.
"Now I smile all the time!" he cried. Something in his hand glistened.
"What is that, Jack?" My voice quivered. He said nothing.
"You need to smile more!" his face lit up. I didn' want to know what he was planning. "I could help!" He took another step forward.
"Please! No!" I sobbed. He raised the knife and lifted it to my face.
"You're too serious, Miz Naples. Way too serious…" I screamed. That's all I remember. That's all I want to remember. Sometimes…people you think your protecting are actually people who you should fear…even children.
First story. Eh..review if ya want. If it's crap...go on. Say it. --shrug--
