Arthur Weasley barely survived book 5 because of Nagini. Ron Weasley almost died in book 6 when he is poisoned. Ginny Weasley came within an inch of death when Riddle kidnapped her in the chamber of secrets. George Weasley lost an ear in Deathly Hallows. Fred Weasley died in the final battle.

The Weasley's have faced death more than any family in the Harry Potter universe. Was it because of Ron's friendship with Harry or would it have happened anyway?

Disclaimer-If I owned Harry Potter Snape wouldn't have died before everyone knew that he was good.

N.B. This story is set between the last chapter of DH and "19 years later".

Meeting the Weasleys

I love Christmas at the Weasley's. I love that everyone is sitting around the table and that I know everything will be alright, that Voldemort isn't going to burst in on the Burrow.

We're all here; Mr and Mrs Weasley, Mrs Tonks and Teddy, Charlie, Bill, Fleur, Percy, George, Ron, Hermione and of course Ginny. Oh and the baby. Ginny's getting huge now.

Fred's picture is hanging above the fireplace looking down on his family. I know Mrs Weasley is crying inside when ever she looks at him but she'll never show it.

"You look tired Harry, do you want to go upstairs and sleep?" Mrs Weasley has noticed me looking at her. As much fun as it would be watching Ron and Hermione arguing – why are they married again? – and listen to Ginny complain about the size of her bladder I think I will go.

As I walk I wonder. If I wasn't here would everything be the same? Would Tonks and Lupin be downstairs with Teddy instead of Tonks' mother? Would Fred be laughing with his twin? Would Mr Weasley be free of those scars that Nagini caused? Probably.

Tears started to fall down the young man's face as he thought about all the could - have - beens and mistakes. If I had never sat next to Ron on the train that first year the Weasley's would be a proper family. Harry's head dropped onto the bed.

Twenty minutes later a big red headed girl waddled into the room. "Harry, Harry. Are you awake?" Ginny asked.

"Well I am now." He answered moodily.

"I know what you're thinking; you know it's not true don't you?"

"No, I don't."

"Calm down Harry" she reasoned, "If we'd never met you I'd have died in the chamber of secrets. Also we wouldn't be together, and our child wouldn't exist. Plus Voldemort would still be in power."

"But Fred…"

"Fred was glad to help; he died with a smile on his face. He was happy."

"But…"

"He was happy!" Ginny had lost her temper now, "We're all glad we know you so just shut up!" Harry opened his mouth to argue but found it covered with Ginny's lips.

"Stop arguing with a pregnant witch and come back downstairs."

"Yeah alright."

Harry looked down at his hand which was encased in Ginny's. Everything was going to be alright.

As the young couple reached the living room they began to hear voices. "Their still at it then", Ginny explained, "Hermione got a Christmas card from…"

"Victor Krum! Why didn't you tell me! Are we not married anymore then! Do you want me to help you to pack for Bulgaria? What does he mean congratulations?" Ron's voice rung out.

"No I'm not going to Bulgaria. He's congratulating me because I'm pregnant." The room suddenly fell silent.

"Pregnant! Well that's brilliant isn't it!" Ron looked ecstatic. "Wait a minute, why does Vicky know? It is mine right?"

Laughter rung throughout the Burrow and Harry smiled; for if he hadn't met the Weasley's Ron would never have met Hermione.
