Such a Chill
The nerve of it, Lucius thought, face pale
with rage as he slammed his dorm room door behind him. The sheer audacity
of him! What right did that lousy Severus Snape have calling him a snot?
If Lucius appeared stuck up at times it was with the greatest of excuses,
he told himself, glaring angrily into the mirror over his dresser. After
all, he was a Malfoy, perfectly bred of the best wizards and witches to
ever grace this earth.
Severus Snape, he hissed in his mind. What
was he? Sure he was pureblood, but wasn't there a rumour about his father
and a certain mudblood in Surrey? And what about a few years back when
his sister hadn't made it into Hogwarts and been hurried out to the country
to live with an aunt? What was Severus Snape to him, Lucius Malfoy?
"I am Lucius fucking Malfoy." He growled,
teeth bared at his reflection as he fought the tears that crept irrationally
to his stinging eyes. "What is he to me? What is he to me? What is this
vile, crawling, Severus Snape to me? I don't need this!" He flung an arm
blindly at the blue eyes and blond hair, sending the glass shattering to
the ground. "I don't need any of this!"
Lucius sank unhappily onto his bed, unwilling
to cry. He clenched his eyes shut tight, white lights and fireworks going
off inside his head. He heard no noise, only the pound of angry blood through
his ears. That Severus Snape. He was supposed to be on my side, thought
Lucius. He's in my house after all, and even if we aren't friends he's
supposed to defend me against those Marauders.
How could he?
Shocked by the thought, simple as it was,
Lucius allowed his eyes to jerk open. Standing in front of him Snape was
yelling something, looking like he was quite worried. He actually reached
out to shake Lucius. The smaller boy jerked away from the touch.
"How dare you?" He hissed, brushing his
shoulder gently.
"I've been yelling at you for fifteen minutes!"
Snape exploded.
"Oh, well you should have yelled louder,
shouldn't you?" Lucius arched an eyebrow and turned his back on the boy.
Snape sighed and sat beside him.
"Listen, I'm sorry about what I said earlier."
"I don't even remember it."
"Lucius…"
"Don't you have somewhere to go Severus
Snape?" Lucius turned to glare at him.
"Lucius…" Snape's eyes were clouded as
he leaned in, lips brushing the other boy's softly before he pulled back
and left without a word. Lucius sat, dumfounded, fingers reaching to trace
his lips.
The nerve of it…
