I posted this on Livejournal…and then deleted my account there. I know no one really likes this pairing or crossover but I wanted to keep this story so I'm posting it here.

I don't own Supernatural or Prison Break

It's Abruzzi that makes him call. Or maybe it's T-Bag…or maybe Sucre. Maybe it's because he can't break confidence in front of Linc. Maybe it's because he needs to. He can't admit that he's worried about his plan.

"Yeah?" That familiar voice answers and Michael lets out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding.

"Dean…hey," he says as he leans against the phone. It's the only thing he can say for a moment.

"Michael?" There's a surprised note in Dean's voice and Michael can't blame him.

"Yeah." Again, he has to pause.

"Wasn't expecting to hear from you," Dean commented, though the surprise is mostly gone from his tone.

"Yeah," Michael repeats and then shakes his head. His normal eloquence with words has left him at the sound of Dean's voice. "So…did you find your brother?"

"I did." A pause. "I also heard about your massive failure as a bank robber."

"Can't be good at everything, right?" He injects a note of forced humor into his voice.

"What's goin' on?" There's worry in Dean's voice this time.

Michael opens his mouth, and the words that come out are not the ones he intends, "just…wanted to make sure you were still out there."

"Sure. What's really goin' on?"

Michael frowns but he doesn't say that his foot is still throbbing in his boot. He doesn't say that he thinks T-Bag is probably going to come after him and he doesn't know how to handle that. He doesn't say that he's worried he's seriously miscalculated with both Abruzzi and Sucre.

He doesn't tell Dean that he's genuinely terrified that his plan is falling apart at the seams and of the consequences not only to Linc but to himself as well. He doesn't have the time and he can't afford a breakdown, can't afford to let that doubt enter his voice.

"You alright?" Dean's voice brings him back to the present and maybe the concern there is enough, at least for the time being.

"I'm fine."

"You sure about that?"

"I have to be." And maybe he does let a little bit of the frustration and desperation he's been feeling into his tone for that second.

When he hangs up, he does feel a bit better and he knows why he had called Dean in the first place. He can't doubt himself in front of Linc, or anyone else but maybe he can, just a little, with Dean. He lets himself imagine being with Dean, indulges in some self pity that he's not.

Then he straightens, his expression smoothes out and he pushes all of those thoughts to the back of his mind. He doesn't have the time for them, anyway.
