If These Wings Could Fly
Flight; an act or instance of passing through the air by the use of wings.
Soaring, hovering, swirling, it was an endless high.
A feeling of ecstasy neither was willing to let go of easily. A feeling that was simple, yet so utterly complicated.
It started without either consciously realizing. They were falling, falling, falling, until suddenly… they were flying. Flying so high on a pair of transcendent wings that was the carnal manifestation of their love.
'Love'… it was a laughable word in that moment.
Neither were acting out of 'love' when their clothing began falling to the floor. Neither were acting out of 'love' when heavy breaths and throaty moans began to fill the air.
No, love wasn't what they were acting upon, they were acting upon pure unadulterated lust.
It began simple enough, it was just sex… or was it? At least that's what they told each other. Maybe it was to ease their guilt ridden conscious, maybe it was for the sake of his family, or maybe they were actually being that selfish.
They agreed that there were to be no strings attached, that there would be no more than just a release of sexual tension at the end of a long day. Enough to satiate the urge, the want, but not enough to fuel the fire.
But even they couldn't abide by their own rules for long. Of course they would never be able to extinguish that flame. Because if one were to whisper you a secret, it would say, "It never burned out in the first place."
So what began as simple lust filled romps, slowly turned in continuous passion filled meetings. They felt ten feet tall, they were lost and now found, and those wings… those wings could fly.
At this point neither could tell where one ended and the other began. They were the perfect balance between heaven and earth.
'Just like old times.'
But this amount of perpetual bliss couldn't really last forever, right? Lin and Tenzin both had learned in their lifetimes that nothing last forever. No matter how invincible you think you are, there's always one little crack, a tiny hairline fracture, the loose seam that unravels it all.
"Only the calm before the storm," Tenzin stated quietly.
Lin could only nod her head in acknowledgement. She was too afraid to speak at the moment, their guilt had finally gotten the best of them.
No matter how long their affair had been going own, the guilt was always their. Lingering, watching, slowly eating away at them. But as the time went on it became easier to ignore, to push away and just forget that he was a married man and she his ex.
That was part of the problem, their ability to forget, their ability to build up those walls around them and shut out all forces of the outside world. Within those walls was nothing but an addiction to one another.
"Damn these walls," Lin muttered to herself.
Tenzin held her body closer to his at the sound of her words, "We'll find a way to make this work."
"And what if this doesn't work out in our favor?" Lin asked.
"Well then, my darling, we'll always remember tonight," Tenzin answered, bringing her into a deep kiss.
When all is said and done, they'd remember that night, and how those wings could fly.
A/N: I love Current!Linzin, and I think most of you know that by now.
Decided to leave the ending neutral, so you can sort of decide for yourself how you think things might have worked out.
This little ficlet was inspired by the song "Wings" by Birdy.
Till next time my lovelies- Lala
