Ruby and Blake sits at a table in the library. There are books all over the brown table, some open, some closed. Ruby also has a binder open to some blank sheets of lined paper. She taps the pencil in her hand on the table in thought. Blake sits across from her with a packet of papers in her hands.

"Come on Ruby. You should know this." Blake says.

"But I don't." Ruby answers.

"Do you want me to ask you the question again?"

"Sure."

Blake looks down at the papers in her hands.

"What part of the brain helps relay messages from the cortex and the cerebellum, and plays a key role in sleep and dreams?" Blake reads.

"I don't know! Why the heck are we learning about the brain?" Ruby complains.

"My guess is so that we know what is actually going on up there. Now, answer the question. The test is in two days."

"Again, I don't know."

"It's the 'pons'. Try to remember that."

Ruby groans. She smacks her head down at the binder below her. She and Blake have been studying for almost an hour now. She is starting to get bored. Putting the packet down on the table, Blake sighs. She is doing her best to help her young teammate, who had came to her for help, but she is not getting all to far. At first, she was able to, but with Ruby getting more and more bored by the minute, trying to help her is growing harder.

"How about we make a deal?" Blake says to Ruby.

"What type of deal?" Ruby asks, not picking her head back up.

"If you can stay focus for another half an hour, and you try your best to answer the questions, I'll take you out to go get ice cream or something. How does that sound?"

This gets Ruby's attention. She lifts up her head, and looks to Blake with wide eyes.

"Do you really mean that?" She asks.

"Yes, I do. You can get any flavor you like." Blake answers.

"Okay! Ask me another question."

Blake smiles and picks up the packet again. She flips through it, looking for a good question to ask Ruby.

"Okay, what does the amygdala do?" She reads off.

"Oh! Um…I know this one…it has something to do with fear, right?" Ruby says.

"Yes. It is where the 'flight-or-fight' starts. Let's see, what else…what is the biggest part of the brain?"

"I know this one! It's the cerebrum!"

"Right you are. Keep it up."

"I will."

"Good. Okay, next question…"

Like Blake had said, if Ruby could stay focus for another half an hour, which she did, she would treat the young girl to ice cream. Ruby got two scoops of rocky road in a waffle cone. Blake got two scoops of vanilla, also in a waffle cone. The two friends sit at a table outside the ice cream parlor.

"How does it taste?" Blake asks Ruby.

"Great! Thank you for getting me this.

How does yours taste?" Ruby replies.

"Good. And you're welcome. You were able to stay focus. Hopefully you retained a lot of it."

"I hope I do okay on the test."

"I hope so to."

Ruby took the test a couple days later. She got a 75.

Very quick little story i came up with at work yesterday (it was dead). I came up with the questions because my psychology class just finished up the parts of the brain. Yeah, very short
