Just to say thank you

By Alasse Fefalas

Beckett looked up from her case file when she heard a knock on the door. She was surprised to see a young redhead at the threshold wearing a rather embarrassed expression on her face. Her hands quickly closed the file in front of her as she stood up. "Alexis! What's going on? What's wrong?" Beckett asked anxiously.

"No, nothing's wrong," Alexis replied as she took slow steps into the room. She held her arms close to her, hugging herself.

Beckett sat on the edge of the table, waiting for her to continue. As much as she wanted to know why Alexis had sought for her, she wanted to give her time to think. Her brows furrowed together in concern, but she patiently held her tongue.

Finally, Alexis spoke. "I just... I wanted to thank you for helping me with this case. It really meant a lot to me."

Beckett smiled. "It was really no big deal. We didn't have any new cases, so it's fine."

"I know you, Detective Ryan and Detective Esposito had to pull quite a number of strings to get all the things I needed, so I wanted to tell you how much I appreciated it. How much it meant to me."

"Alexis, you know I would have helped you earlier if you had just asked."

"I didn't want to inconvenience you. I also thought I could do this myself... but in the end I had to get Dad to help me," Alexis said bitterly.

"Well, Castle does have a unique way of seeing things that no one else does. If not for him, we wouldn't have had closed as many cases," Beckett laughed. "Like it or not, we get his help a lot around here."

"Yeah, that's true," Alexis smiled, her arms dropping to her sides.

"Look, I know you're 19 and you're a big girl, but there's really no harm from asking for help once in a while."

"Yeah, I know."

"And just so you know: if you need anything from me, just ask. I'll always be here to help you. In anything," said Beckett, looking directly into Alexis's eyes.

"Thank you," said Alexis sincerely. The smile on her face widened as her arms raised slightly, inviting Beckett for a hug.

Beaming, Beckett pulled the younger girl into a tight hug. "You're always welcome."
