Note: This takes place sometime during the night when John is monitoring the police scanner for the vampires to surface while the boys are out like lights in their beds
Posting early because this evening I'll be out and about chasing fireworks and Dean lookalikes. Happy 4th of July! Enjoy!
John's eyes drifted to Sam and Dean, watching their chests' rise and fall with the easy breath of sleep. Asleep but aware. He knew if he so much as cleared his throat, they'd both be up and ready to fight within a moment's notice.
He remembered watching them sleep as kids, that same up and down motion tethering him to Earth, reassuring him, comforting him. Back then he had forced them to be brave, to be independent, to be tough. To be men, not boys.
Funny, now that they were grown, all he could see were two sleeping little boys.
