A/N: I'm procrastinating from writing And the Rest of the World Falls Away, and I wrote this in about 20 minutes, so it's probably not great, but I wanted to post it anyway. Enjoy.
It was all a lie⦠It was all a lie.
Then why did she still love him?
He had lied about everything. Everything about Connor was a lie. She was starting to see his side. To maybe forgive a part of him. But it was all a lie. Yet somehow, in his eyes, she could see the truth. He never meant to cause any harm. He never meant to lie, really. He didn't mean to break her heart. He still loved her.
Maybe she didn't forgive him now, but she had a feeling. Everything they felt for each other, that was real. Connor didn't matter, it was just him and her. Everything "Connor" thought about her, those were all Evan's thoughts. Evan had made a mistake. Evan had made a huge mistake. But he was not a bad person. And she still loved him.
For a while, things were going good. The Murphy's were happy. Jared and Alana got the recognition they wanted. Connor didn't disappear from everyone's minds. Evan's anxiety was getting better. And he was with the girl of his dreams. It was all built on lies. Everything that made people happy was built on lies. Except for Evan and Zoe. The lies are just what got them started. Everything they felt for each other was real. It was true. They loved each other.
Evan hated himself for what he did. He hated that he couldn't tell the truth. He hated that he let it spin out of control like that. He hated that he hurt the Murphy's like that. He hated that he hurt Zoe like that. And he still loved her. God, how he loved her.
After it all came out, Evan figured Zoe would never want to speak to him again. Why would she? He'd betrayed her trust, lied to her whole family, and caused them all pain that he couldn't reverse. He was a horrible, horrible person. She had no reason to still love him.
But she did. Zoe Murphy was madly, hopelessly in love with Evan Hansen. She couldn't help it. No matter what lies he told, they didn't change how she felt. Maybe there was a way they could work it out. Maybe there was a way they could be together again. Just the two of them. And the rest of the world would fall away. Because he still loved her, and she still loved him. And that would never end.
