Inuyasha was hot on the trail of a shikon shard. He nose was twitching, his ears pricked, his claws ready. A grin stretched across his face, lighting up his features in a mildly horrifying expression as he considered his luck. Days of searching was about to come to fruition.
He was so focused on the distant scent of his opponent, that he barely noticed the sound of feet dragging behind him. His attention shifted at the sound of a sniffle. His grin replaced with a frown, he turned his attention to regard his companion.
Kagome drooped. Her mouth had fallen into a pout. She regarded him with a pair of sleepy, dry eyes, her brow puckered.
"Why are we stopping?" she whispered.
Holding up a hand, he turned his attention back to the sound of whatever had the shard. It was too far to be reached soon, even if they travelled at his speed. He could leave her behind but... she looked at him with sleepy eyes. Cursing himself for letting her get so tired, he made a quick decision.
"We're stopping for the night."
"Oh." She grinned at him. "Thank-you Inuyasha."
