Nagisa gulped down a lingering sense of worry. He stared up at the intimidating block of plastic and metal known as the block. His first swim meet ever had been going so well so far, he was swimming his favourite stroke, breaststroke, as he had found out earlier.
"Makato look! I'm doing breaststroke!" Nagisa said, shoving his arm where there were several words and numbers scrawled in sharpie.
"That's great, I'm doing back, you're doing breast, Haru is swimming free, and Rin is swimming fly."
But now that he was standing behind the block waiting for his heat in his brand new competition suit and cap, he couldn't shake that nervous feeling. So many things could go wrong, his dive could get messed up, he could start doing the wrong stroke, he could even get DQed.
"Are you Nagisa?" The timer asked in confusion, glancing back down at the sheet then at the blonde boy.
"Yes." He told him, ignoring the usual confusion about his name.
"Right then, 50 breaststroke, good luck!" The man told him as he climbed on the block with shaky legs. Taking a few deep breaths, he took an extra second to adjust his footing and go over everything in his head. Push off with the front foot, follow with the back, tight streamline, don't breath on the breakout, wait, that was for freestyle, do the underwater pull out. He waited for the announcer to say take your marks, bending over and raising his hips like Asha had taught him. Gripping the block so hard the blood left his hands, he waited for the starting buzzer.
When the buzzer finally did sound, he launched forward, mentally taking everything he needed to do into account, and flying I to the water. When he was submerged, he unconsciously began the motions he had practiced every night for the past 3 weeks. His googles fogged up instantly, but it didn't matter, he forgot about everything else, all his nervousness washing away. He broke the surface and began his powerful fast strokes, reaching the wall before he knew it, and turning lightning fast.
As his hands slammed into the wall, he gasped for air and looked around him, watching the others finish before looking at the scoreboard.
'First!' He thought with a smile. After shaking hands with the people in the lanes next to him, he climbed out with shaky legs, this time from exhaustion, and ran to find his friends.
Hi guys! I wrote this because I'm feeling really nervous about my swim meet tomorrow. It's not my first one, but it's my first one on this team, and their all really good. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, and thank you Asha for helping me on my dives! I might just write one of these before every swim meet, I feel a lot better now. Review and wish me luck or ask me how I did!
Oh, and in case you were wondering about anything I mentioned in the story, you can PM me or leave a review. And I'll say this now in case you didn't know, DQed means disqualified.
Have a nice day! B-)
