Chapter 1 -

The lavender-haired ghoul sat elegantly in a chair in the corner of the noisy, crowded room.

'They might have provided refreshment at least,' thought the ghoul sourly. He listened idly to the music that was being played and happened to catch the eye of the DJ- another ghoul with tattoos from head to toe and a very emo haircut. His mode of dress was eccentric- he wore a black sleeved shawl, Capri pants and slippers.

"Tsukiyama-kun" said the second ghoul with a hearty wave. Tsukiyama Shuu smiled thinly and bowed politely.

"Your music is so … original. I've never heard anything like it," muttered Tsukiyama, a thin layer of ice in his voice.

"Thank you," said Uta, not taking the bait. "Oh! I do hope your mask is in good repair." Uta leaned a bit closer to Tsukiyama "Your features were my favorite to design for. You're very classic- like a portrait".

Tsukiyama resisted the urge to lean away. 'His scent is so pungent- it doesn't smell bad, but it's so heavy. I don't care for it … it's nothing like Kaneki's' he thought.

"I have my eye on someone else. Please back away, plebian," said Tsukiyama thinly. Uta blushed.

"So this means I can't ask you for a dance," Uta said, obviously hurt "That's very sad". Uta shuffled off.

"Good night," quipped Tsukiyama and turned on his heel. There was a moment of silence disturbed only by the faint hum of white noise and then …

'Is that a violin?' mused Tsukiyama. He resumed his place in his chair. The music was a remix of a classic tune incorporating an electric violin and guitar and a drum machine.

'I could almost enjoy this,' thought Tsukiyama. He almost didn't notice that Uta had appeared at his side.

"Are you sure I can't have that dance? I thought you might like this song," he said shyly.

"If you get handsy I will eat you right here" said Tsukiyama, arranging himself in the other ghoul's arms.

"Do you only dislike me because I'm poor?" asked Uta.

"You're awfully direct … and no. You dress like a mad-man and your tattoos are revolting" replied Tsukiyama.

"Humans always say their bodies are temples. Why can't I decorate the walls?" asked Uta.

"You look scary," said Tsukiyama sourly.

"Maybe I like to keep people guessing?" said the other ghoul with a beatific smile. "I'm actually not very scary at all."

"You know how to dance though," observed Tsukiyama.

"I like to dance. I watch dance lessons at a studio in my free time. And I sneak into art classes when I can. And I even have a library card" Uta took his arms from around Tsukiyama and reached for his wallet to show off the card.

"I really should read more but it always seems to take so long," said Tsukiyama 'It would impress Kaneki-kun if I read his favorite novel. I tried but it was so abstract- I only finished the first three chapters' he thought.

"You might not be reading the right things," remarked Uta. Tsukiyama shrugged elegantly.

"Well … good night and thank you for the dance," said Uta. He bowed and scuttled away.

'Strange little peasant,' thought Tsukiyama.
