Chapter:1
It was was night and the only light provided was that of the full moon's reflection on the open waters shimmering below the Great Naruto Bridge. There stood a certain Hyuga that seemed to be entranced by the beautiful sight below her. She was lost in thought. So lost that she didn't notice the brief gust of wind that playfully lifted her indigo hair up and left, letting her hair fall gracefully back down her back.
"Hinata?" A familiar voice said bring her back to reality "you alright"
She squealed surprised to see someone out here so late.
"Oi. Ino you just startled me that's all" she said shyly smiling " So what are you doing out here so late?"
Ino stared at her for a moment. That smile seemed more like one of sorrow and not embarrassment. That doesn't seem like or Hinata at all. Now that she thought about it when they had ran into each other earlier that day Hinata seemed down and depressed. Even though her mood had improved from their encounter earlier Ino could still recognize a hint of sadness in her and it bothered Ino. Why? She had no clue. Maybe it was because she too had once been pained with the same unknown burden. Or maybe it was because Ino never saw Hinata look so sad like this before. But if there was something she could do to help right now she'd go to the end of Earth to do it.
"On my way back from a mission. I could ask you the same thing too." Ino said raising an eyebrow with a small smile. Well actually it looked more of smirk. Which she gave a lot when she was going to get the information she wanted out of you one way or another. Whether you liked it or not. But she didn't mean to come off that way. If anything Ino was eager to help in any way possible and might've been a little shy and scared about helping Hinata out. She was new to this and didn't know exactly why she was helping at all to begin with.
After seeing her smirk Hinata immediately knew Ino didn't care. All she wanted was some type of dirt on her. And that the friendly concerned tone and expression was nothing but an act to deceive her. To think she actually thought Ino was concerned about her was a foolish thing to think and Hinata just wasn't going to be made any more of a fool then she'd already been for theses past few days.
"Nothing. I was just coming back from a mission too." Hinata said in a neutral tone.
Hinata's tone shocked Ino even scared her a bit. She couldn't help but wonder why all of a sudden Hinata had became so shut off. Was it something she'd done? Did she offend Hinata in any way? Man this was going nowhere. But Ino had to keep trying. She can't help anyone who refuses an offering hand, but Ino had a feeling for some reason and couldn't let this go. She had to help her no matter how much Hinata pushed her away.
"So then where's your team? It wasn't a solo, was it?" she questioned.
"No. It wasn't." She answered too quickly as she turned away still thinking Ino was up to no good.
Ino sighed in defeat. She knew there was something wrong with Hinata and wanted to help but for some reason she wasn't cooperating. Sure she had done some messed up stuff in the past to cause others not to trust her but she had changed and matured over time. She no longer wanted some juicy gossip to tell Sakura or any dirt to blackmail anyone with, like when she was thirteen. She was tired of having this ridiculous facade of being a beauty queen obsessed more with clothes and boys than her actual duty as a shinobi and maybe she could officially start here.
"Are you sure you're fine?" Ino tried to push the question one last time.
"Oi Ino. It's nothing real-"
Tired of the back and fourth, Ino finally got to the point.
"Look I know something's bothering you. I could tell by what happened today when we meat something was wrong. And believe it or not I'm your friend and want to help you in any way possible but only if you let me. I'm sorry if I did something to make you mad at me but maybe you misunderstood. Right now I'm here and I want to listen to your problems but we can't get no where if you don't trust me I'll even leave if you want me to."
Hinata looked up at Ino. She couldn't help but smile. On the out side Ino could appear to be selfish and self-centered but she really did care and Hinata could tell that much even if it took her too long to realize that. 'Ino-chan you've really changed over time' and Hinata couldn't ignore the fact that she admired Ino for that. Maybe if she had became more bolder over the years she wouldn't have been in this situation in the first place.
"*Daijōbu. Me Naruto-kun, and Sakura-san went on a delivery mission. it was only goninna take 2 days at most. The whole time Naruto-kun only paid attention to Sakura-san. It was like I wasn't even there and the few times he did talk to me Sakura always cut me off! Ino-chan she was glued all over him. And no matter how hard I tried to get his attention she- Ino-chan it was just terrible" Hinata just about yelled on the verge of tears.
At first Ino expected it to be that Hinata was too afraid to just talk to Naruto but this was just a little different. As what Hinata said sunk in She became furious with Sakura. Sometimes Sakura did dumb things that really pissed Ino off but this, this off the radar. She really wanted to knock the hell out of Sakura now. Ino could not be believe Sakura of all people in Konoha would do this. After all the complaints about how Naruto being an idiot and still being annoying even after being considered a hero why would all of a sudden she have a romantic interest in Naruto now? Although she too said there was a chance she'd be romantically interested in the goof ball too Ino knew beyond a doubt she was caught in the moment and didn't really mean it. Besides her heart belonged to someone else. But that still changes anything. If what Hinata said earlier went down the way she said it did then when Ino gets back to the village she'd have a nice long conversation with both Sakura and Naruto.
Ino just stood there in her own world for a second. Her once concerned facial expression turned into a one of pure anger. Her eyebrow began to twitch and she smirked just a little as her hands began to ball up into fist.
Taking note of Ino's sudden change in mood Hinata quickly tried to calm her.
"B-but please I-ino don't get m-mad at Sakura! I-i don't w-want to ruin your friendship!"
"Friendship smiendship! What she did was wrong and you and I both know it! You're nice and all Hinata so I'll tell you this: people are gonna mistake that kindness for a weakness and walk all over you. Right now that's what Sakura's doing. But I'm not gonna let her get away with it either! I'll knock her into the middle of next week if I have to!" Ino yelled
Hinata still couldn't believe what was happening. She'd just witnessed a side of Ino that she didn't even know existed. It was a side of Ino that she wanted to see more of. Even if was just a little Hinata could tell Naruto was rubbing off on Ino. Right now she felt bad for not believing Ino earlier when tried helping her.
After her little rant Ino calmed down and gave Hinata a hug followed by a heart warming smile.
"Hinata if that was all that was bothering you you then you've gotta toughen up and show everyone you're not the same Hinata Hyuga you were 3 years ago. Don't let her or anyone else get to you."
Ino gave her one more squeeze and started on her way home.
Hinata knew this advice would've been useful before but would have the same effect now? Naruto has always loved Sakura and now that she was 'returning' his feelings would it be to late to gain his attention? Just the thought of it made Hinata want to crawl into a hole and die. Right now Naruto being with someone else would be too painful to witness but seeing him fall for someone else and not being able to do anything about it would be worst. Well now that's what Hinata's situation could be.
"Wait Ino-chan!" Hinata desperately pleaded
Ino stopped and turned towards Hinata " Yeah?"
"What do you do when the one you love is failing for someone else and there's nothing you could do about it?"
That struck a nerve.
Ino could somewhat empathize with that. Back in their genin days she'd always like one particular boy. Uchiha Sasuke. Every girl had liked him. Who wouldn't, he was considered a genus and had extremely good looks and he was cool. Everything a girl could want in a guy, is what Ino used to always say about him. But that was just an excuse.
She really did like Sasuke, just not for those reasons like all the other girls. She'd always see him in the forest training with his older brother. He always seemed so happy with him and Ino wanted to get to know that Sasuke. The Sasuke who's smile was so bright and comforting, the Sasuke that was always so happy and ambitious not some cold and isolated boy. Even now she had to fight back tears because of the thought of him. Ino couldn't allow herself to think of him. Especially at a time like this.
"Hinata" Ino said just above a whisper "I-I just don't know"
"Maybe I should just give u-"
"No.I won't allow you to suffer the same pain I did! Although he doesn't deserve you you've waited long enough for him! Don't give in to Sakura's fucking mind games!" by now tears flowed down her eyes.
She shook her head. Sure Ino could bare seeing Sasuke be so close and lovey dovey with Sakura, but would Hinata be able to stand seeing Sakura and Naruto like that. It just wasn't fair. Hinata waited and waited for Naruto's affection let alone attention and here she was distraughted and sad.
But what pained Ino the most was the thoughts of him. Just one thought of Sasuke was enough to bring Ino to tears. The thought of seeing Sakura following him around like a lost puppy. The thought of Sasuke growing closer and closer to Sakura each time she saw them. Every single memory of him brought her to tears. She never felt so weak, crying over someone who probably never noticed her.
At last she finally broke down.
"What's wrong with me?!"She cried hysterically over and over until she felt a hand on her shoulder
Ino looked up seeing Hinata smiling warmly at her.
"Ino-chan" she said "Nothing's wrong with you. You just have a broken heart that's all" Hinata pulls Ino in for a hug.
"We'll just have to stay strong. You and I both" she assured "Now if you're ready, lets go home"
Ino and Hinata head towards Konoha. They both had learned something new about the other creating and strengthening a new bond. This was the being to a long friendship. Ino knew that for a fact as they approached the North gate to Konoha.
When it was time for them to part ways Ino turned towards Hinata.
"Thanks. For evrything Hinata-chan"
"No. Thank you Ino-san" and they left to head home. But before Hinata could leave earshot Ino called out
"oh and Hinata, call me Ino now since we're friends"she smiled before disappearing into the night.
"I'll be sure to keep that in mind...Ino"
So that took waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy longer than expected but I hope you enjoy it better than the first. Thanks-^^-
Peace. Love. Geese and Doves
