Middle Name
"Nicky, can I talk to you?" Jackie asked as they lay in bed one night.
"Sure." Nick answered half asleep.
"Are you awake? This is important so I want you coherent." Jackie told him.
"I'm awake." He assured her as he looked at her to prove it to her.
"Ok, good, I was thinking about baby names the other day and it would mean a lot to me if we could give her the middle name Jane if it's a girl, but then I got to thinking about your job and what Jane Doe means in your profession and then I figured you wouldn't like that."
Nick smiled at her.
"We can use it for a middle name if you want, I know how much your mentor means to you."
"Thanks Nicky, she really does mean a lot to me, without her, I wouldn't still be a teacher."
"That's nice Jacks, but you should tell her that, not me."
"I have, several times, and she just says and I quote quit it."
Nick laughed, that sounded like something the two women would argue about.
"What I think is amazing is how much you like her even after all the time you have had to spend looking for her car keys." Nick quipped jokingly, Jane had a habit of losing her car keys and having to look for them forever.
Jackie laughed.
"Yep, I'm very nice for putting up with her." She quipped back, clearly joking, in truth Jackie was lucky that Jane had been kind enough to take her on as a student teacher.
"Do you remember the time we went to your hometown in the winter and we went out to eat with her and her husband and she lost her keys and when she couldn't find them we all ended up digging in the snow?" Nick asked with a laugh.
"Yeah, the kids loved it though, that was their first time seeing snow, they had a blast, and believe it or not that was not the first time I had to help her dig through snow for her keys, one time she lost them at school and she couldn't find them anywhere and soon about six teachers were digging through the snow to help her. After a while she looks at all the other teachers and goes "You guys can go ahead and go, Jackie and I will keep looking." I didn't say anything but in my mind I was thinking I'm not staying here to help you any longer either woman, I'm freezing."
Nick burst out laughing.
"Where were they?" He asked.
"She found them, in the very bottom of her purse."
Nick laughed harder.
"Alright, so if the baby is a girl her middle name will be Jane, and I was thinking that if it's a boy his middle name can be Matthew after your brother." Jackie told him.
"I love that idea Jacks, thank you."
"Sure, now that we have the baby's middle name set I can't wait to find out if it's a boy or a girl." Jackie told him with a smile.
"Yeah me neither, and we only have to wait another week."
The week couldn't go by fast enough!
