All the blood rushed to Shannon's head as the rope around her ankle swung her back and forth. She could have killed Brandon for this. She knew he was somewhere in the Labyrinth, laughing at her. He mocked her every time she tried it.
"You know I'm the only person to ever make it through!"
"That's because you designed it, you little creep."
The Labyrinth was an obstacle filled maze designed by Brandon, the group genius, to test their skills. Something like the long past Shaolin Temple's Wooden Men room, but with a technological twist.
Shannon slipped her pocketknife from her belt. Better to use something simple then Chi, Master Campbell had said. Ordinary people just couldn't know how strong their Chi was.
Shannon hit the ground with a loud thump.
"So much for stealth." She mumbled. Brandon had to be near the finish by now! Shannon slid carefully under the laser bars. She got a little bit farther everytime she tried the Labyrinth, but she had no idea just how long it was rumoured to run. She figured Brandon just never stop updating.
"Just like a video game system. Once you actually buy one, a better one comes out!" Shannon sighed. She never could see very well, and Brandon made sure there were plenty of things only a good eye could guess. In front of her stood a massive gorge, and only a perfectly aimed jump would land her across. She gotten stuck here three times already. She made a flying leap.

And luckly the ground was padded. Someone beat her to her groan. Shannon glanced over to see Brandon rubbing his back, face winced in pain.
"What happened to you?" she asked.
"What do you think?" Brandon retorted, glaring. "I missed the jump."
"But you designed this! You know all the secrets!" Brandon looked surprised. "No I don't. That wouldn't be fair. I just enter in data. The computer selects all this stuff at random."
"Then how do you always win?"
"I never said I didn't know any cheat codes. But we both lost. Program off." The dark caves around them disappeared, leaving them in a bright blue room, ceiling, walls and floor.
"Maybe you could ease up on the falls then if not even you can make it."
"Deal. But that means I gotta come up with something just as difficult to replace it." Brandon walked off grinning as Shannon groaned and laid back on the ground.
