Butterflies
A Harry Potter Fanfiction
by Katherine
It was a spring morning, typical in all ways. James Sirius Potter was four years old and he was bored. His little brother Al was at his cousin's Rosie's house, and all his friends were either sick or busy. His dad was at work, and his mom was taking care of his baby sister Lily. So, he wandered outside. 12 Grimmauld Place did not have a yard, and no one noticed as the small boy appeared as if out of nowhere. James spotted a pretty fluttering thing over a news stand. It was colorful, and the young boy claped his hands in delight as he began to chase it.
The butterfly flew in curlicues and zig-zags all over as James tried to chase it. He followed it all over the place. Down one street and up another. The little fluttering insecet seemed to taunt him, luring him further and further away from home, across streets and through large crowds. At last they ended up in a park. The butterfly landed on a leaf and as slowly and carefully as a four year old boy can be, James crept up on the poor creature and pounced. He held his cupped hands up to his face and looked at it. James had thought it would be pretty like one of the new baby's airy sheets.
What he saw instead was a small creature he'd never seen before. It had a strange curly nose-mouth thing that just touched the palm of his hand. For all he knew, the thing was trying to suck out all his blood. It had strange pokey sticks sticking out of it's head and small beady eyes that were really starting to freak him out.
James let out a blood-curling scream and launched the poor thing into the air, stumbling backwards. A pair of hands caught him, and James turned to look up into the very angry face of his mother.
James Sirius Potter was four years old, and he did not enjoy butterflies.
A/N: Please review, I'd really appreciate it if you did :) 3 Katherine
A/N the 2nd: The lovely Saiice spotted an error in my old version, I had for some reason unbeknowst to me, typed Grimwald instead of Grimmauld. So a very lovely thank you to Sarah! :) I have now fixed it.
