Authors note: This concept came after writing a different fan fiction of these two. I was curious as to how they reacted to each other in the land of the dead before the events of the movie. So I thought I'd start at the beginning! I was planning on this being a one shot but if anyone wants this to continue then feel free to leave a review and I'd consider it!
All character and movie references to Coco belong to Disney and Pixar!
"So what now?" Imelda asked the clerk.
"Now you can go out that door and see your husband. I'm sure he will be more than happy to-"
"My husband?! What is he doing here?!"
"He- He is your only family in the land of the dead, señora"
"What does that have to do with anything?"
"He was notified that you had passed. It's customary to let family members know when their loved ones have crossed over."
"He's hardly family. Why would he show up anyway?"
"Well I don't know. Perhaps because-"
"Is there another exit? One where I don't have to see him?"
"He is expecting you."
"Is there another exit?"
"Only for emergencies."
"Fine" She said rolling her eyes and standing up to leave.
"Welcome to the land of the-"
"Si si si gracias." she said as she opened the door to reveal many family members awaiting new arrivals. This gave her the idea that maybe he wouldn't see her.
"IMELDA!"
So much for that thought. She charged forward, making it look like she is intentionally ignoring him. He didn't get the message.
"Imelda!" He said making the distance between her and the crowd smaller.
"I've missed you so much!" He said picking her up in hug only to be shoved away. She pushed and squirmed out of his embrace.
"Get your hands off me!"
"Imelda?" he said releasing her.
"Don't think after all these years I just forgot what you did! What on earth do you think you were doing by coming here?! What were you thinking?"
"Well actually I- I- oh. You- *sigh* you remarried didn't you? I knew it!"
"What?!" she said completely baffled.
"I'm sorry I- when I heard you were here I got so excited. I thought maybe-"
"What are you talking about?!"
"You remarried, right? That's why you never put my photo up?"
"WHAT?! You think that's why I never put you on an ofrenda?"
"What other reason could there be?" he said obliviously.
"Oh I don't know maybe because you LEFT US!"
"Left? Only for a few months!"
"Did you hit your cabeza recently? You know what you did!"
"What I did? What I did was try to provide for you and Coco-"
"DON'T! you say her name! After all this time I thought maybe maybe you came here to apologize and yet you stand here and actually blame me for never putting up your photo?"
"Even if you hated my guts for making a stupid mistake I thought you'd at least want me to see our girl growing up"
"And WHY would I let our daughter remember the man that abandoned her?"
"I was going to come back! Surely Ernesto told you-"
"Oh he told me alright. Told me how you ran off with first woman who laid eyes on you!"
"That's what he told you?! Stealing my songs is one thing but lying to my wife! I outta give that man a piece of my mind!"
"Go ahead! And don't bother trying to find me after you're done." she said walking away from him.
"Wait! You don't know where our house is!"
"I am perfectly capable of finding my house on my own!"
