'So...who are you, exactly?' Amy inquired, leaning forwards.

The newly regenerated Doctor and Amy Pond were in the TARDIS library, after their adventure on the Starship UK.

'Well...what do you want to know?' the Doctor asked kindly but warily, putting down his book.

Amy rearranged her dressing gown over her crossed legs. 'Well, I've known you since I was a little girl...but I know nothing about you. So, where are you from? Where's your home?'

'This is my home, the TARDIS,' he replied matter-of-factly.

Amy rolled her eyes. 'I know that. But where were you born? Where's your family?'

'My family are gone, same as my planet and entire species. I'm the last,' the Doctor said quietly. 'I'm alone.'

Amy gently took his hand. 'You're not alone,' she said gently. 'You have me.'

The Doctor looked up, into Amy's eyes.

And he could tell that she would never willingly leave him. In their world of abandonment and shared lack of family, all they had was each other.
