Just a quick little scene that's been in my head. First time writing J&D, wanted to see if I could. Takes place during the race to beat the lurkers to the bomb before going to the Red Sage's lab in Precursor Legacy.

We both run for the zoomer. I reach it first and climb on, motioning for Jak to get behind me.

"I'm driving this time."

He always gets the fun missions. This time it's my turn.

He climbs on with a smirk, slipping his arms around me as I rev the engine. Daxter sits on Jaks shoulder, ready to hold on for dear life - both boys know I drive fast.

I punch the gas and we take off like a shot. Jak's arms tighten around me. Not that I mind - if I'd known that's what it took to get him to hold me, I'd have done it a lot sooner.

The lurkers are a ways ahead, but we manage to catch up pretty easy thanks to the boost we get from the blue eco vents scattered along the landscape.

"Damn, where's a gun when you need one?" I mutter. "They're so close now, you could just shoot them and stop this whole mess."

"Eyes on the road, Kai!"

"Or lack thereof." I agree, skimming the edge of a path that drops off sharply into the valley below. Gotta keep it on the road. This is no time to be reckless - those lurkers get ahead of us and set off that bomb, we're toast.

But I won't let that happen.

Daxter screams as I narrowly miss a box of dark eco, and Jak holds on tighter as I skim a crate of explosives. It's cutting it close, I admit. But the all the trees along the path don't exactly make it easy to navigate anyway, and with all the traps the lurkers left, I don't have a lot of room to maneuver

"They're getting too far ahead, Kai!" Daxter shouts, pointing.

"Not for long!"

I hit another boost pad and we gain speed. I'm already pushing the zoomer as fast as it'll go, but it's barely enough.

We near the end of the trail, and I can see the bomb in the distance.

"Jak, can you take it?"

Not having time to look back, I take his firm hand on my shoulder as a 'yes'.

"Alright, it'll be close. Get ready..."

The timing has to be perfect. If I'm off by even a second, I could jump into an explosive. Or worse, send them into one. Jak's good with the zoomer, but even he can't fix my mistake if I set him on a bad course.

"Just a little more..."

The lurkers are just ahead of us. I only have a split-second to make a decision and act on it.

"Now!"

Instantly I shove off of the bike. A fraction of a second later and Jak takes control, slowing to a safe stop before joining me. I'm already taking out the lurker nearest the bomb - as long as he's out of the way, we can breathe a little easier while we deal with the others.

Jak makes quick work of the other three, and even Daxter helps out. When it's done they turn to me.

"I'm never letting you drive again!" Daxter wails. "I thought I was gonna die!"

"Hey, it wasn't that bad." I look to Jak. "If it weren't for all the traps, you would've had fun and you know it."

Jak gives me a strange look then, one I can't identify. After living with him for practically my whole life, I know every expression he could have. Or so I thought. But this..? This is definitely new. The look is gone in an instant, and he's back to the usual grin he saves only for me. I can't help but grin back, and with that we continue on to the Red Sage's house.
