Amy was sitting on her swingset when she saw Michael walk by hand in hind with his girlfriend Melanie. "Hey what are you doing tomorrow night?" Michael has asked her two days ago while he was walking her home from school."Oh, nothing. I was thinking about going to the homecoming game with some girl friends, why?" she had replied to the mysterious question. "Oh, just wondering. I'm spendind it with Melanie. I'll see you around", he had said as they reached Amy's house. 'He will never notice me' she thought to herself as the couple disappeared from view.

"Amy! Come inside and do your homework, then wash up for dinner," called her mother from the open kitchen window. "Coming! Be right there!" she called as she grabbed her backpack from underneath the big spruce tree and ran inside. As she sat down at her desk to write the outline for her enlish essay, her cellphone rang from across the room on her bed. She threw herself onto her bed to grab the phone then walked back to her desk and answered it. "Hello? Amy Sherwood here," she said into the reciever. She smiled when she heard Michael's voice. "Hey! Melanie is busy babysitting her cousin tonight, so would you like to do something with me?" he asked with an answering smile that Amy could hear in his voice. "Sure! I'll e right over just as soon as i finish this English paper okay?" she replied excitedly. "Alright I'll be sitting on the porch. See you soon," said Michael before she heard the line go dead from his line. Amy quickly finished her paper and grabbed her coat and ran down the stairs.

"Mom! I'm going to Michael's, be back in a litle while!" she called over her shoulder to her mother in the living room as she dashed out the door and down the street. 'Wow! He actually inited me to hang out with him! I can't believe it!! Maybe he wants to break up with Melanie! What if...," she was forced to cut the thought short, as she was in front of Michael's house now. She quickly hid her excitement and replaced it with a serene smile and a gentle wave as she reached the porch. He got up to hug her and they went to the backyard and sat in the old treehouse their fathers had built for them when they were younger. "so, what have you been up to lately? I haven't seen you at the library lately." It was a long standing tradition that once a week, Amy and Michael would meet at the library to do homework together. Only when they wanted to spend time together without people around would Michael climb up the branches to the old treehouse to throw down that ladder for her. "Oh, I've been busy with football practice and -" he was cut off suddenly by Amy asking a question. "when do you join the football team?" she asked suprised. "Oh, just about a week ago. Did I not tell you? Oh sorry." he said smiling while Amy didn't look at him. 'Well I guess he really won't have time to be with me anymore, what with his precious Melanie and his big Jock football practice' she thought with a sigh. "I have to go, um, feed Salem. 'Bye!" she said quickly when she saw evidence that Melanie had ben in the treehouse. She quickly scampered down the ladder and threw it over the branches onto the platform. She wiped away her tears and screamed just as soon as she was out of earshot of Michael and less than a block from her house. Her mother came out and heard her screaming and asked her what was the matter, but she just told her mother that she was fine and she just thought she saw a street mouse.

Amy then ran inside to feed her kitten so that her statement to Michael would not be false.
